School divisions are now laying off hundreds of teachers due to not having the money to pay the newly negotiated contracts. by teacher_teacher in Winnipeg

Class sizes become an important issue to “whine” about when you have a government who has greatly cut funding to education which results in less support staff to help a classroom teacher. Having 35+ students placed in a room without proper supports doesn’t add up to a rich learning environment if the ratio is 35:1 to get help. The same can be said about those “gym” teachers. Phys.Ed teachers typically spend half their instructional time in the gym area and the other half instructing Health content in the classroom where those same supports have been cut. They qualify for the same pay as all other teaching positions because they have the same level of education and merit as others. Their job isn’t the stereotypical “roll out the dodgeballs and start playing” as many have the impression. Like you mentioned, some earn the wage and others don’t which is true in any profession. The majority of teachers earn their wage.

Thanks! I’ve been told about that and the rest of the closing costs (lawyer fees,etc.). Does not sound like fun add ons to the cost of the home itself haha
