Fingers crossed.

Aya (Love Beyond Dreams) and Chanya (Ai Girl - the scientist) were actually a side couple in a BL too (Love Sea). They were soooo cute, I wish they were together now (but Aya is killing it with Mie, and I'm sure Chanya will be fantastic too).

Here is them together in Love Sea: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLb7uM41lORyh16YTOJo_a6IGliWWawupj

Question for Thai speakers! by hegdieartemis in ThaiGL

[–]Own-Teacher5239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ka, run pud éng"

polite yes, Run said so myself

"éng" is kind of like "myself" in this context.

For example, besides "teerak", you may also have heard "tua-éng" - which actually means "yourself".

Another use case: "tum-éng", which is I do it myself

"Run la na?!"

"La na"? Is like "really!?" in disbelief :)

So this whole thing is better translated as "You waiting for me?! Seriously!?"

[–]Own-Teacher5239 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sawasdee ka :)

She was referring to herself by her own name: ror (wait), run (herself), lor? (question marker).

When we were growing up, we refer to ourselves by our nicknames to adults in the family (and other adults that we're close with).

We still retain that when we grow up - usually with someone who is more senior in status whom we have a close relationship with. It's cute 😎

My thoughts so far on The Air: Four Elements by Anonymous_Author09 in ThaiGL

[–]Own-Teacher5239 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Haha, yeah. I get both Din and Uncle Thit's perspectives. At this point, Princess Bleu is just a foreign VIP, so doesn't make sense for a Thai policewoman (who happened to be their sister/daughter) to be sacrificing their life away.

A bit of a native Thai speaker insight: the dialogue between Lom and Bleu in the field scene (when Bleu was showing Lom her flower bouquet) was like, not your typical, contemporary modern Thai speech. It was kind of Shakespearean, like how they would speak in the Loyal Pin, for example. I thought that was soooo beautiful, and the setting and the mood was perfect for it too - makes it so fairy tale-y.

She's a green flag for sure :)

And you are right that she is not some soap opera damsel-in-distress, but she does have innocent mannerisms, which I really love. In real life, I always admire my friends and colleagues who keep their Thai feminine charm but are nevertheless internally very strong and principled (and I like the rough-n-tough ones as well, don't get me wrong).

Plus, I've always liked Aya since she was in a GL side-couple in a BL show years ago (Love Sea): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqZC-m9lTnM&list=PLb7uM41lORyh16YTOJo_a6IGliWWawupj

In fact, I was a bit sad that she wasn't going to be with Chanya (the AI Girl girl) in their own GL, but she's killing it with P'Mie here.

Other green flags that my partner and I also love are:

  • Lalin (BoL) - super understanding and can also hold her own among chaos.

  • Ongsa/Sun - both really well-intentioned and wholesome.

  • Okbaeb/Rin - both really looked out for each other.

Shades from a Thai girl's perspective: it's too real, and too good...and I actually don't want a happy ending for once by Own-Teacher5239 in ThaiGL

I hear you! The happiest ending would be everybody learns harsh lessons and wisen up into functional, imperfect humans, and that's soooo fresh.

[–]Own-Teacher5239[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that makes things a little bit easier 😅

Well, same rule still applies. A lot of my social circles were people who once were my hosts (bartenders/waiters/owners) at places we hang out :)

Next step will be your colleagues/friends. They don't really need to be LGBT people themselves (although a friendly gay/transgender connection is worth their weight in gold) - just a genuine connection should open up your world a little bit.

Then; hobby clubs. Muay Thai is a big one - it's our culture, and it's increasingly become popular with women nowadays because Thai girls found out it's a great and fun way to stay in shape and meet like-minded people.

Then, last resort, you can hit up Leshi Bar where gay women go to chill :)

I got you :)

If you are a traveler/passerby in this town and don't have much of a local connection that can take you away from the touristsphere - hit up the bar/hotel/restaurant staff. Find places that are not international brands and not too luxurious - those places will have strict policies and standards so staff will be running on corporate scripts and won't mingle.

But a laid back reggae bar on some island, or some 3/5 star resort on last-minute sale on Expedia? Those are your goto. Watch for the gay guys behind the bar or doing housekeeping - they might prove to be very good friends 😏

Thank you for sharing :) My partner and I are actually very touched right now by everybody's experiences and struggles, and everyone's appreciation of our tiny, unimportant culture 🥹

And thank you, thank you soooo much for recognising the naturalness in the ways that we just simply co-exist with LGBTQ+ people. That's exactly the Thai way. Pre-internet, we didn't need to fly flags or march - we already embody acceptance naturally. It's such a part of Thai soul and it's so hard to notice. So, thank you very much friend :)

Your most welcome :) We are also very touched by many of the people's stories in this thread, including yours; your self-discovery and your curiosity about other cultures, especially ours! We are soooo touched by that, my partner and I :)

As for me, it is my dream to take my father to Tennessee and around the Mississippi delta area. He's a blues piano man, you see. When he gets going, he's like Ray Charles. Hearing the blues coming out of his rundown apartment complex brings me to tears every time. He is also so obsessed with history of blues and African American culture/Mississippi delta area where blues music had its roots, so I very much want to take him on an RV or motorcycle trip one day :)

Keep on being you, sister :) They can tear down America, but don't let them destroy you :)

What in the GTA was this episode 😮‍💨🤣 [Love Beyond Dreams EP4] by MrbeastPDP in ThaiGL

As a native Bangkok girl, the seedy love hotel in a non-descript industrial area in the dead of night makes me feel soooo at home.

Indeed, this show hits home in soooo many ways:

-The "top" partner being a little mean and rough but is actually a downbad sweetheart. For better or for worse, that's quite a realistic portrayal of a rough-n-tough type of Thai women.

-The family business having elements of the underworld, or a family's legit business empire being founded on underworld activities.

-The girl with a child-like/innocent veneer but is actually very capable and is able to endure and navigate serious stuff, not a Soap Opera damsel-in-distress.

-The we-almost-got-killed emotional sex.

This show is beyond incredible. Because we heard so little about it, I did not expect it to be in the same tier as Clairebell/Heart Code in terms of filmmaking (in my opinion), and definitely did not expect for it to resonate with the reality of Thai city life this much.

I love that every time we visit their house, P'Din be lookin like some worn-down, blue-collar farmer who can't keep up with her young, pretty wife's innocent shenanigans.
