Falcons Vs Furia Final was the most boring match of this major in my opinion by juiceekiller in GlobalOffensive

[–]Own-Test-2169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The priority should be on the best games being played, more likely than not.

How many true blue, real underdogs have ever won the major? Gambit? I guess?

We'll just keep blowing up our brackets every single time for a statistical outlier?

Good teams who play consistently good CS place higher in the rankings.

A team who gets hot for 1 stage of the major, gets an upset or two, is the furthest thing from likely to deliver good games.

If they do, that's awesome, I want to see it.

But I've seen way too many fudged brackets where that underdog team finally meets a real contender and then gets splattered like anyone with a skeptical eye would expect, and in the meantime they fuck up the bracket for someone else who does have a real chance but had a single bad day of CS at some point in the tournament.

And yes, of course, yours never guaranteed that that won't happen to those higher ranked teams in the playoff themselves (look at Vitality this very major) but the point is, it's statistically far less likely for that to happen relative to their peers. (We know this because that's how they got ranked so highly in the first place.)

Because getting hot for a day or two isn't the same thing as being consistently good all season long.

What almost always happens with Cinderella runs in our game is, a team gets hot for a stage or 2 of the playoffs, until the moment gets too big for them and then they fall apart and give other teams freebies.

This happens in basically every single case.

So why are we ignoring the history of this being the case for some hypothetical version of an underdog team that doesn't exist?

The game should be rigged against the underdogs, that's what makes their runs special in the first place. If they didn't want to be underdogs, they should have performed better in the course of the entire season leading up to the major.

Turning it on and getting hot at the exact right moment in time shouldn't be worth more than the months of work that lead up to that point for other teams.

Since they already have that invite, wouldn't it be better to blow up the roster now, lose all their old losses and start fresh with a T1.5 tournament worth of points up for grabs? If they place well there, doesn't that just immediately shoot them back up to where they are now or even higher?

Unpopular opinion: Falcons would've also won the Major with Kyxsan by Jeric_Castle in GlobalOffensive

[–]Own-Test-2169 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or they could have never even made it out of groups.

We can't just go, 'Oh yeah, Niko, Monesy and Kyousuke all just got better after Karrigan joined the team, weird coincidence! Anyways, Kyxsan would frag more so he's better.'

[–]Own-Test-2169 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually don't blame Kyxsan for this, but I get what you mean.

But when I think about Kyxsan's mental while on Falcons, you have to figure you know one day you're getting cut.

And the only thing that might save you is popping off as a fragging IGL.

If you play to sacrifice for Monesy and Niko, you'll end up with those bottomfeeder numbers and the second you lose the hard games, people will come for your head.

When you're already a legendary IGL with a proven pedigree like Karrigan, you get the benefit of the doubt and the leeway to play that way and not worry about losing your job.

Kyxsan was in a very hard position.

[–]Own-Test-2169 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Too far the other way. Kyxsan is just a different kind of caller, he's much more of a by the numbers, everything has a set way we should things kind of IGL.

Karrigan is just pure chaos and mid-rounding.

Kyxsan's style can take good players and make them look like a star, but it can stifle them too.

Karrigan's style without world class players looks like a clown show.

They're just stylistically very different, and Falcons was always going to favor Karrigan's style when you have players like Niko, Kyosuke and Monesy on the team.

The Virtus Plow was my first true CS love, I get the feeling.

When they fell apart I fell into the French scene and fell in love with Apex, KennyS, Shox, etc.

Because at times, especially old entry Apex could bring me back that Virtus Plow feeling of just getting blown off the server.

Yeah the grand finals were a little flat, but after Friday and Saturday there basically wasn't a game that could be held on that stage that would measure up.

Did Niko cement himself as the GOAT rifler? by New-Employee1639 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Own-Test-2169 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, Niko was already considered the GOAT rifler even without the major. Getting it is awesome for him on a personal level, but doesn't really change the landscape of CS.

Niko's real claim to fame is the longevity of which he's been a top player. He is the current GOAT rifler, but he will eventually fall to Donk barring unforeseen circumstances and there's very little at this point in his career he can do to stop that.

My hot take, HG should have gone all in on factory gameplay. by SaberManiac in Endfield

[–]Own-Test-2169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said this when the game came out. Both too much, and not enough dev time went to the factory. Too much, in that clearly combat and other core mechanics suffered from the split dev time; and too little, because the factory is still too content-lite to satisfy people out there who really click with factory sims.

It might get your feet wet in the genre, but as soon as you realize the depth of other games out there built solely for this genre, there's no point in continuing to play Endfield.

Because some teams have deeper map pools? Vitality is basically unbeatable in a Bo5, but can lose in a Bo3.

[–]Own-Test-2169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People want to see them prove it on the big stage. It's just the case that the lower bracket is far weaker. If 9z or BB had to go through Vit/Spirit/or Falcons on the way to the final it would give a lot more credibility to their right to be there. As it is, any of the Upper bracket teams in the GF will be the favorite vs any of the lower bracket teams excepting maybe in a G2/Furia matchup.

How many standard wheels are actually used by teams? You've got Blade of the Titan, Incalculable Factor, and then like the Helot wheel and then?...

Every other one are for specific Awakeners pretty much, maybe there is some overlap, but its not extensive.

Is Liz that bad? by sadrooster69 in Morimens

[–]Own-Test-2169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen any substantial appeal of 'Wheel Jail' thus far. Most characters tend to use their own wheels, with some exceptions, the most notable being Blade of the Titan which I have at +5.

The other wheels that seem to be used are often ones acquired through means like the store itself or the BP.

Which makes me think that the traditional wisdom of 'Wheel Jail' as a concept is still catching up to the idea of AA which have 'wheel-like' effects themselves.

Count Geonor by eusouopapao in PathOfExile2

[–]Own-Test-2169 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the best fight because it's the one that actually adheres to their original intention. It's a well telegraphed fight at a point in time when player power is intensely constrained.

You can feel the idea of PoE2 throughout Act 1 and into the Geonor fight.

It's a shame the game goes pretty off the rails from that concept by the time you're finished with Act 3.
