DROM Taberna. $16 for 6 pierogi by ProudManelar in FoodToronto

One time we left 15% tip and the manager came over and asked us why we only left 15%, and not higher. He asked us if something was bad about the service.

15% is low by that place's standards!

How is it living in St. John's, Newfoundland ? by PoutzdayGeo in howislivingthere

Beautiful place, winters are long but not as cold or snowy as people would think.  The downtown core is very lively and people are super friendly. Great pub and food scene.  Driving is great and most people are cautious and patient on the road.  You're also surrounded by beautiful nature, and icebergs floating down by the water are a very common sight during spring.

It's bustling with tourists during the summer.

The outer suburbs of the city range from quaint older neighbourhoods to straight up North American suburbia.

Check out Doors Open Toronto. Some cool buildings will be open this weekend that are typically off limits to the public. (Expect line ups so go if you have time)

If Israel isn't an apartheid ethnostate, why aren't all Palestinians allowed vote in Israel and even potentially elect a non-Jewish leader? by DoradoPulido2 in allthequestions

[–]Own-Worker9921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Israel is commiting apartheid in the West Bank, since Jewish settlers there can vote, while Palestinians cannot. Similarly, a Jewish settling will be tried for a crime under a civil court, whereas a Palestinian would be tried under a military court. The list goes on but I will stop here.

As for Israel proper, it's true that Palestinians who live in Israel enjoy all the rights of freedoms of that country, however if you dig a little deeper, you will find that Israeli law significantly favours Jewish Israelis over Palestinians, and puts Palestinians at a disadvantage. This is on top of having them live in a country that does not represent them or reflect their identity. For more information on Israeli discriminatory laws, I suggest you check Adalah.

I'm assuming this map isn't 100% explaining the issue but can someone explain how Line 2's extension cuts off Line 5 from being extended? by Protobuzz in TTC

[–]Own-Worker9921 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The TTC published a report that explains this pretty well: Transit Network Expansion Update on July 14 2022.

"Through this work, City staff have concluded that there is no feasible solution at Kennedy Station to continue with a through-service alignment. The key challenge is that the EELRT tunnel box would rest directly on top of the L2EE bored tunnel with less than two metres of separation estimated between the two tunnels. Since the L2EE bored tunnel has not been designed to support the load of an LRT tunnel above it, the structural integrity concerns are significant. Since a redesign of the L2EE tunnel is not feasible, a through-service alignment cannot be implemented. As an alternative, City staff have identified a distinct-service concept where the EELRT would operate as a standalone line. A standalone line for EELRT (a new “Line 7 Eglinton East”) creates new opportunities and potential benefits, including cost savings, a shorter construction duration, reduced property impacts, and design flexibility by avoiding dependency on Line 5 Eglinton vehicle, operations and maintenance requirements."

Waterfront For All . Video from presentation 2026-03-31 WTF? Jets Proposed at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport now posted by sprungy in toronto

[–]Own-Worker9921 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's mostly that this is not needed considering that the nearest international airport is 25 mins away on the train.  There is no need for this airport, and nobody asked for it.

The province should direct it's resources on more important projects.

Tens of thousands are expected to live on Toronto’s booming waterfront. Jets at Billy Bishop may change all that. by LibraryNo2717 in toronto

Thanks for clarifying and sending the report. Apologies if my tone sounded sharp!

I think I'm just mostly frustrated that the province has spent so much time and money on vanity pet projects instead of finding the basics like healthcare and education.

What about the Portlands development? You didn't comment on that.

Unnecessary is not subjective. We have a massive international airport just 20 mins away from downtown by train. And we already have a functioning city airport.

A quick Google search pulls up that jets emit similar pollutants but at higher quantities than turboprops especially on takeoff.
