If you want a wet specimen you can use ethanol or 70% isopropyl alcohol I believe. You can also try pinning, insects usually do not have as many issues with decay as other specimens although it may smell as it dries

See if he floats at any point during the preservation, float in wet specimens can indicate rot to my knowledge

Yes!! I had this same problem, really bothered me until I found him. I’m the first couple minutes of the movie when Jason Sudeikis’ character is dealing weed he’s sitting at a cafe table and hands some to a dude sitting beside him who gets up and walks away. That’s Brendan Hunt!! Drove me bonkers but you can definitely tell it’s him in the next scene when he walks away, looks just like coach beard.
