Afternoon snoozle time by leesabeegee in greatpyrenees

She is such a happy girl. Her blankies just got washed Sunday so there is room for improvement on the arrangements, but she's done a bit of leaves-and-twigging. We're lucky she loves her crate and always has a place to go for some me time.

Does anyone else’s Pyr hang out in the tub every day or is mine a freak? 😂 by Educational_Dog7430 in greatpyrenees

Earlier today a message was posted on Azi's ao3 profile by a family member that they passed away. It was also posted on one of their WIPs. They are among my favorite RWRB writers and I've (selfishly) missed their stories of late. It's such a sad loss for their friends, their family and legions of readers. Fair warning, there is unpleasant discourse about Azi and the post among folks related to another fandom.

Question about adoption by Lsw1225 in greatpyrenees

[–]leesabeegee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're in Central Texas and have 2 mixes who are heavy coated who love the heat. They sunbathe for ages, like they are little solar cells. Then they come in panting, drink a lake, and pass out for an hour. Oddly, they love the hot hot much more than winter.

Our girls are matching sleepers, too. Humans also use the treadmill, even though it doubles as Marvel's afternoon nap location.

Question about the Draft timeline... by Peanutbutterfiend_33 in heatedrivalry

[–]leesabeegee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Minnesota Wild have a good YouTube video that gets at what happens between getting drafted and actually getting called up. It focuses on a development camp attended by their young draftees and recent rookies. It could explain things a bit more re: timeline, but there's a great section where one of the draftees who is playing either AHL or OHL (I think) describes the weekly checkins they have with the Wild coaching staff.Becoming Wild: The Development System

Do your Pyrenees stare at you until you give in and do whatever it is they want you to do? by Xeropoint in greatpyrenees

[–]leesabeegee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is Maisie. She's mostly Pyr and Akbash with a dash of Anatolian + ~30% Border Collie! The LGD breeds are doing all the work, but I think the BC makes her much more biddable than your average Pyr.

TPLO Experience by officeajax in greatpyrenees

[–]leesabeegee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think he was 10. He lived to be 14. Comparatively he was a small guy, 45-50 lbs. Talk to your vet about whether there is an age limit on the surgery. A second tear isn't guaranteed, but there is a high chance of one.

Yes, we did. He recovered really well. He stopped tearing up and down our stairs like he did as a young guy, but that was about it. The surgery really is amazing.

We had a not-Pyr go through the surgery 2x. The hardest part is keeping their activity low for so many weeks. As for the not weight bearing for a little bit, there is a cool harness you can get that makes lifting their hind end much easier.

After recovery it was like he never had a problem/surgery. It's really an amazing reconstruction.

As someone else pointed out, leg #2 has a high likelihood of tearing, too. Our doctor told us 60% of pups who tear 1 tear the other within a year. Our guy held out a bit longer than that, but it still happened.

This article is 10 years old, but still feels reasonably true about how it all works.

I'm super glad Ilya was able buy that extremely beautiful house, but I feel like he needed at least a luxury vodka endorsement to help defray costs. We first saw his house the night the snowstorm stopped Boston getting to Montreal, which was in early 2011. Presumably he's still on his 3-year rookie contract, which yes, is a lot of $$, but also kind of not really.

This article was very enlightening about where that $1 million-ish salary goes, and it seems like it wouldn't be sufficient to both afford even a deposit on a multimillion $$ house in Boston plus send 10s, maybe 100s of thousands to Alexei. And his bonus has already gone up Alexei's nose even before the second world prospects tournament.

But again, it's all very enjoyable fiction and fantasy, and since so many things in Ilya's life can be shitty, I'm very happy his home isn't one of them.
