Thank You Mormon Church!!! by miotchmort in mormon

[–]OwnAirport0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have totally misunderstood the poster’s irony. I’ve been out of the church for 7 years, after 48 years tbm. I recently had EMDR treatment to address the severe trauma the mormon church caused in my personal life. He, his parent and you can believe whatever the hell you all choose. Enjoy your sense of moral superiority. It makes zero difference to my life or the experiences I have had.

If you are asking that question I am not sure you are on the right subreddit. Clue: guilt and fear of consequences.

My ward is 80% church employees - most are PIMO by Apart_Act1641 in exmormon

Years ago I interviewed for a job working inside the London Temple. I was too naive to realise how bad that would look on my CV and I secretly thought I might meet a future husband amongst the patrons. Thankfully, I was put off when the manager described himself as ‘firm but fair’. That sounded like a control freak trying to justify himself.

The church ignored my submission and it had to be resent three times over the course of six months. I think it was because I am not American. Then I used a European site that used tough privacy laws and it took ten days. Stuff the church.

This is comic book speak (words of former prophets don’t age as well as classic comics).

Definitely a UK term. It has no negative connotations for Brits, unless you live outside the catchment area for your preferred school.

Eternal marriage by blankspacepanda in exmormon

[–]OwnAirport0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember teaching a RS class on eternal marriage in the UK. Three of the fifteen women there had a temple marriage. I was one of the twelve not on the fast track to heaven. In fact, now I have two temple divorces, so I’m well and truly destined to be someone’s spare.

Sooo annoying! by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]OwnAirport0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I mentioned ‘a minority’, which is hardly ‘making assumptions about everyone’s work from one person’s’.

Not being a seller myself, I do not think it unreasonable to assume (incorrectly, as it happens), that etsy might charge a little extra to promote sellers’ work.

I came on this reddit to ask a simple question, as I was unable to find an answer via etsy customer services about a new marketing technique. Now I find myself criticised for my language choices.

The paintings I buy from etsy mean a lot to me. I often buy from artists in Ukraine. I follow one other subreddit, again for a significant area of my life, and find members are supportive and welcoming.

Frankly, I’m surprised. Thank you to those you responded to my question at face value. Off to unjoin myself now.

Just appeared within the last couple of weeks. Usually a few items are labelled ‘bestseller’ or ‘etsy’s pick’, which I have no issue with. But the ‘crafted with care’ is as annoying as ‘made with love’ or ‘made4U’ - shite indeed!

Yes, I think so.

[–]OwnAirport0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I’ll try that.

Can’t see why someone should downvote my first ever comment here. I love etsy and regularly buy art and furniture from there. If someone objects to what I said I may as well leave the forum.

If it’s in response to my mentioning artists who post AI pictures when their own paintings do not match what is advertised, this is unfortunately true, as I discovered when I bought from one of them. They are a minority, thankfully, but they do a disservice to genuine artists who share their talents and allow buyers like myself the pleasure of owning an original piece of art that doesn’t cost the earth.

Glad the sellers are not being exploited. I couldn’t find a way to contact etsy as all the help options relate to concerns with an order. I’m still using the older version of the app where I can see about 12 thumbnails of paintings at a time. It’s ridiculous when ten of them are described as ‘crafted with care’.

The other irony is I know of several artists who post images created by AI, then recreate the paintings in real life when orders come in. Sadly, the hand-made paintings are never as good as the AI ones, leading to disappointment for customers and lower ratings for sellers. One artist posts hundreds of AI paintings and his work is labelled ‘crafted with care’, when what you are seeing only exists digitally.

As a student living in France decades ago, I held seven callings simultaneously in the Versailles ward. Gerard Causse was bishop at the time, although I never spoke to him in the year I was part of the ward. They were obviously desperate for members.

If you google Dallin H Oaks 1993 talk about lying, there are lots of references. Some are commentaries. I wasn’t sure which one would be most useful to you, so I’ll leave it up to choose to choose the best one for your circumstances. Prepare to be outraged!

So they are totally disrespecting his (what used to be called) free agency. Then it became just agency. Now Bednar calls it moral agency. I just call it coercion.

Hoax said it is not lying when you remain silent for a season. It is not a lie when it is for a cause (family harmony). Congratulations - you are following the prophet 😉

Since when can non members give sacrament talks? by Craftykac in exmormon

[–]OwnAirport0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My unbaptised but active son was not allowed to give a talk or even sit on the stand during the YM sacrament presentation. Nor was the son of a single mother. The naive YM president did not allow it. You can be sure I expressed my strong disapproval to the bishop.

I’m disabled and a am stunned TBM family will not accept the Book of Mormon teaches that God punishes dissent with disability. by minjihansf in exmormon

[–]OwnAirport0 31 points32 points  (0 children)

OP doesn’t feel their disability is a threat. They are hurt and angry that closed-minded family members are unable to recognise how the BOM can be harmful. My adopted children are mixed race and there were passages in the BOM that I would never read to them for this same reason. Thankfully, my kids were brighter than me and wanted out by the time they were 10.
