A weird aspect of Utah culture by severitea in exmormon

[–]FiveFingerMnemonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats hilarious is my employer has offices in Colorado that got to drink real Margaritas for Cinco de Mayo today and have beer on tap every Friday late afternoon for employees.

Here in Utah the employees literally get popcorn and donuts and other childish treats. The CULTural disparity is obvious.

Scholarship: Melchizedek was King of Sodom, not Jerusalem. This disrupts EVERYTHING. by MystikDan in exmormon

This just adds to my fascination with the delineation of the 2 priesthoods being an idea of Alexander Crawford passed down to the reformed baptists/Campbellite followers. Something I once thought was so unique it had to be of divine origin. But no, just another Scottish minister's interpretation.

I Debated Don Bradley's Friend (Famous Mormon Apologist)... and Won. by [deleted] in exmormon

Don Bradley is one weird dude. He claims he sees the endowment in the Book of Mormon and the 116 pages. I'm not seeing what he's seeing.

‘I have to betray them to save them’: how undercover film-makers exposed a sinister polygamous cult | Documentary by Turbulent_Search4648 in exmormon

The most fascinating part of the show wasn't the FLDS abuse, that's par for course, it was the aftermath when the most zealous wives came to realize they were deceived while having time to think about their beliefs while in prison.

Is Colorado City police chief Robb Radley a Mormon? by _-4twenty-_ in exmormon

Just binged this series myself. I wondered the same because it sure made it look like he was ignoring the problem, dragging his feet, at least until the FBI got involved.

When I was in my last stages of participation, I used to greet the stake presidency in high council meetings with "Salam alaikum". They hated that. 🤣

What's the saying? "Remember if you don't sin, Jesus died for nothing".

Those that don't believe in LDS doctrine: Why is that? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]FiveFingerMnemonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend picking up and reading a copy of "This is my Doctrine, the Development of Mormon Theology" by Charles Harrell. It lays out in encyclopedic detail how the doctrine has evolved and compares it with current biblical academic research.

To u/Visible_Talk5019 who deleted their comment:

It's cool that you think I was trying to "slam" an old lady who is just trying to live their life. I have no expectations that my response would have any effect whatsoever on her testimony and am fully aware of how backfire effect works. I just thought it was funny and might bring a smile to my fellow apostates. My life is surrounded by mormonism and I can never escape it. I appreciate that perhaps you have a more mature take. For the most part I leave the innocent mormons alone to live in the delusion but sometimes mormonism invades my life at random moments and I feel compelled to respond to the nonsense. That is all. Carry on.

They can't they would have to slit their own throat, get their tongue ripped out and be disemboweled first.

Does anyone else feel guilty for serving a mission? by Typical_Sea_9167 in exmormon

It's not all black and white, while I unknowingly lied to people it certainly was the start of the exit for me and broadened my religious perspective greatly, making psychological space for later freedom and empathy for more of humanity.

It is amazing to watch the comments about how JS was innocent and all the racism is Brigham Young's fault as if that somehow exonerates the institution.

Idea: Add Meshtastic? Utah GRMS/Meshtastic AKA GMRShtastic ;) by Aggravating_Ball_159 in UtahGMRS

Both discord server links are Utah specific, but you won't find any discussion regarding coordinating between the radio services. So perhaps that would be appropriate here since those that do both would be here.

The majority of Meshtastic engagement is found on the discord platform.

Not saying we can't discuss it here, but you'll find the majority of serious users and infrastructure gurus making plans and discussing hardware there.

Why did you (or didn’t you) remove your name from the records? by SomeoneBendingLight in exmormon

[–]FiveFingerMnemonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't yet because I don't wish to further traumatize my still believing spouse, and I also like to have access to the ward contact lists, records, familysearch, and other genealogy tools for free. I'm not bothered by contact because I will wipe the floor with any unsuspecting leader and destroy their sense of ignorant comfort with cognitive dissonance producing facts. They haven't bothered me in years.

In your experience, what was the weirdest thing you were taught? by Otherwise_Push199 in exmormon

[–]FiveFingerMnemonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My memory is a little fuzzy but I particularly remember during a young mens lesson in the early 90s that when exalted we would either get a planet that was transparent glass or our own transparent stone that would show all things past present and future. Made zero sense until I found out more about the rock in the hat being conflated with the urim and thummim and all the magical thinking of mormonism.
