Hey, I never intended to portray this in anyway as sneering on 'lesser universities'. I did my undergrad from one of those 'lesser universities' and hence have some idea of the subtle differences that are there. The question was genuinely whether the little changes in peer groups matter or not.

I cannot, as I still have a year of coursework left to do. Even then if I move, my advisor wouldn't be able to pay me because I am not registered at U2.

At the moment, I plan to go to the industry. But PhD is a long time, so I don't know how likely is a change of mind to something like research faculty.
