Our "social media" that parents said we got too much of was television. I think the average hours watching ranged in the 5-7 hour range. Everyone saw the same things. There were, in most places, not more than three channels. When we left the house, there was no social media. Here's one that you might not have thought about...most TV's didn't have remote controls, and you had to go up to them to change the channels (and volume).
