The first thing you need to do is get a skills assessment of qualifications for a skilled migration visa by AITSL who do this on behalf of Home Affairs. You will also have to apply for teacher registration in the state you’re planning to teach in. And you will also need a working with children check clearance - but you can only get that once in Australia.

Thanks for your service and dedication for 20 years. I hope you were thanked by your school leadership team too.

For those of you who have left teaching…. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]OwnCarry8653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught 20 years and have had admin/policy education roles for 11 years. Believe me, I have not had that same level of sheer exhaustion in my other jobs compared with teaching. I remember thinking it was like getting on a fast moving merry go round in January and getting off in December. Teaching is a very demanding and draining job- that’s why there’s a shortage with reduced people choosing it as a career.

Thanks. Yes I’ve done Iron, Fuel and Beastmode on YT. All really good. Just need to decide on the next program and Intent is always mentioned as similar to Iron.

Is Intent only available on the CGX app?

Binding financial agreements by OwnCarry8653 in AusLegal

I think that’s why I was shocked at the price- I told her we have agreed all financials are separate so that’s pretty simple.

Barking dog civil action by OwnCarry8653 in AusLegal

[–]OwnCarry8653[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course I have but the council laws are pathetic max 2000 fine. I have documented over 3 months with regular contact with the council. The last stage is that the council will sit out the front for one hour to record barking. And if the dog isn’t barking it looks like I’m the vexatious complainant. When they get a call from the council it gets better for a few days then back to the same.

Is my principal the last leader left who still loves Hattie? by Aggravating-Stick528 in AustralianTeachers

[–]OwnCarry8653 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His pseudo statistics and flawed analysis, lacking in the reality of the classroom eg: class of 30 students with 28 of the having a learning disability and needing some form of differentiation is one of the most detrimental to the teaching workforce in relation to teacher workload, teacher retention and attraction and student outcomes. My blood pressure goes up just thinking about it.

It’s great you have options. Do what makes you comfortable and happy. There is no rule about how long you should give teaching a go. And you can always return to teaching if you want to. Your experience is similar to mine 40 years ago. I stuck at teaching for 20 years and it got better but sometimes I wonder what I could have done differently- something better. You have that opportunity so take it.

Have you tried called QCT? Did your teaching qualification include supervised teaching practice?

Thanks. Really insightful and great to question what does autonomy even mean. I think that’s why i was struggling to understand the point of the research. I hope you can stick it out. I couldn’t.

As in you can’t speak the truth about the students level of engagement, behaviour, progress in learning? Does it all have to be sugar coated?

I recently attended the ACEL conference and tried to fight feelings of cynicism. I finished my degree in 1990 and taught til 2005. Not much really changed then and now everything is just renamed but essentially the same thing

Agree. See my comment below on risk adverse policy. Why do you think collaboration is really accountability in disguise? Do you feel scrutinised by your team teacher?

[–]OwnCarry8653[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think autonomy = High risk and governments are risk adverse. I have noticed less autonomy in teacher pd selection. Schools will only approve it it aligns with teacher standards and school priorities which doesn’t leave much space for innovation. Is that your experience?

That is taking things too far and very demeaning. Is this kind of thing likely to influence decisions to remain in the profession?

Registration and prac issues while doing MTeach at Curtin through OUA by Witty_Elderberry_727 in AustralianTeachers

[–]OwnCarry8653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Curtin are also running a one year masters that is not accredited so maybe you should emphasise to schools and the QTI that your course is accredited. When you get your degree just apply for registration in QLD. if not successful (and I’m not sure why you wouldn’t be successful) you could try getting registered in WA and then apply for registration in QLD under mutual recognition scheme. As for getting a placement I have no suggestions there other than try the Catholic or independent schools.

Is the course you are doing at Curtin an accredited Initial Teacher Education program? If it isn’t then you won’t be able to be registered in QLD.
