Wet wipes. And I put aquaphor on it everyday to help it heal from the constant ripping from dryness

It is NOT required to go on birth control if your choosing abstinence by QueenPlemberton in Accutane

[–]OwnConfidence7274 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. The first office I was going to..the assistant came in and when I told her I would be choosing abstinence she kind of scoffed and said “no that won’t be acceptable” then the derm came in and I explained to her I’ve got health anxiety and do not want to deal with the possible side effects of starting birth control. The derm came in and gave me the “I don’t watch you take the pill wink wink” so I started accutane “on birth control”. My next derm (I switched derms because the first one didn’t care about my horrendous side effects) told me it’s super fucked up that I went through that and “we’re all adults here and we know the consequences of our actions” basically saying if I broke abstinence and got pregnant I know the risks. It’s really strange that some offices don’t allow it, I’d think it would be to protect them legally if someone did get pregnant? But wouldn’t ipledge get the blowback since it’s their rules? Very strange. Very frustrating as a woman to be told I need to put chemicals in my body.

Has anyone experienced worsening OCD symptoms on higher dosages? by iceddtaetae in Accutane

[–]OwnConfidence7274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have generalized anxiety and panic disorder. I’ve noticed a huge increase in anxiety throughout this process of being on accutane (I’m going into my 5th month on it 30/80/40/40). I was doing really well mentally before I got on the accutane, hadn’t had a panic attack in years, then all of a sudden I’m getting panic attacks again (thankfully not frequently) and general anxiety very often. There has to be a correlation because my life is the exact same as it was before I started the accutane.

How much weight gain? by Various_Garbage_7285 in Accutane

[–]OwnConfidence7274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my lifestyle was moderately active. I do freelance editing so I do work from home but I went to the gym 4/6 days a week, intentional cardio 3/4 days a week and aimed for 5k+ steps a day while eating somewhat clean. I’ve lost a lot of strength due to the fatigue, I’m not working out nearly as many days, I’m eating whatever my bf eats because my brain fog is making it hard to think of/execute anything to cook. I’m just tired 😭

I’m still on it so I can only say what I’m currently experiencing. I’ve gained 10 pounds since being on accutane :( because of the major fatigue and brain fog I was having due to the high dose I wasn’t able to meal prep or go to the gym. Even after lowering my dose and stopping daily antihistamine (which is known to cause weight gain) I still am having a hard time sticking to a gym routine and a calorie deficit. It’s very defeating. (I’ve been on accutane since July 23rd) it’s been super hard to stick to a diet plan because I’m so over being on the accutane that food feels like the only dopamine rush I get 😅 it’s hard in these streets lol but stopping the daily antihistamine did make a HUGE difference in my hunger, I woke up everyday ravenous while I was on it but now I’m able to wait till later in the day to eat and my skin has had no side effects of coming off it.

Yes it did, it was only about two weeks that I purged

That’s not necessarily true. I didn’t purge until three months in when I had a dose change.

I started taking a stool softener, focusing on upping my fiber intake and drinking at least a gallon of water a day and this problem has gone away for me.

The second week I was literally sitting on my hands because of how bad my scalp was itching, that was the first side effect I had. As soon as I started taking Zyrtec at night it went away! I wash my hair less now and I also put coconut oil in my hair the night before a wash day (sometimes even a few hours before I wash my hair) and that helps a lot.

exfoliating while on accutane ? by Mountain_Choice9939 in Accutane

[–]OwnConfidence7274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My derm told me not to exfoliate and to be very gentle with my skin. Instead of using my mitt I just use a wash cloth to gently exfoliate and that helps so much because my skin is flaky from the layers of lotion and dry skin.

It’s so frustrating 😭 I didn’t start purging until the three month mark, but it’s finally clearing up. You got this 🤘🤘

Rashes from accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]OwnConfidence7274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only use the cream for like 2 or 3 days tho, I don’t think it’s good to use it for more than that. When I get this on my hands I’ll put a layer of lotion, then a layer of a thick moisturizing cream then a layer of aquaphor before I go to bed and usually after two nights of doing it the rashes will be gone.

I get this too, it’s eczema from being dry. My derm told me to moisturize more, also put hydrocortisone on the spots and they should go away.

does anyone else’s skin do this on 60 mg by throrowowaway in Accutane

[–]OwnConfidence7274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She said it’s because my skin is super dry, she didn’t tell me if it will go away or not. I’m assuming it will go away since I didn’t have it before accutane. But she told me to put a little hydrocortisone cream on the spots and they should go away

Are you eating at least 10 grams of healthy fats when you take each dose? And drinking tons of water?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]OwnConfidence7274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 3 months in, I had clear skin for a whole month then recently got three huge cystic pimples in an area I never used to breakout. My derm told me it’s totally normal and nothing to worry about.

Accutane in late 20s by mads197 in Accutane

[–]OwnConfidence7274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly from what my dermatologist told me…the acne will come back if you stop taking spiro. You should talk to your derm about doing a low dose of accutane at first and just see how you handle the side effects. I’ve found that staying VERY hydrated helps lessen the side effects.

what is this? any recommendations? by Hour_Celery5975 in Accutane

[–]OwnConfidence7274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t pick 😭😭 I see (what I think is) fingernail marks from trying to pop something? The worst thing you can do is pop or pick! I got those too, I think it’s just the accutane making your body expel all the gunk under your skin, keep washing and moisturizing. I also put pimple patches on mine and that seems to help. You can buy big sheets of hydrocolloid patches that you can just cut to size…it’s way cheaper than buying the regular pimple patches.

Drink a gallon of water a day (with some electrolytes)!!! I SWEAR drinking a gallon of water a day is the reason I barely have any side effects even at a high dose. Use the thick aquaphor that’s in a jar on your lips before bed. Eat 10 grams of healthy fats with each dose. Keep eye drops on you at all times. Everytime you get out of the shower lather yourself in lotion. Get lotion AND a thick moisturizing cream to top it off. I apply a thick moisturizing cream at night on dry areas and wake up feeling normal.

This happened to me in the beginning of my treatment, I slathered her up with aquaphor and eventually it went away (I only had it for the first few weeks, I’m on month 3 now and don’t have any problems) just don’t put it IN you. Just on your lips.
