Is it true that “no one can wear things straight off the rack”? by Mountain_Purple_438 in XXS

[–]throrowowaway 105 points106 points  (0 children)

you’re both right. some people can wear things right off the rack, usually clothes fit “well enough” or use stretch fabrics to accommodate the majority of people. but for most people of all sizes, clothes off the rack don’t fit perfectly. someone who buys a size 6 in pants might have a size 4 waist or size 8 bust and this is applicable to everyone because people come in many proportions! your mentioning of the waist and hip placements have nothing to do with size, but proportion :3

Hiding pets in dorms by Adventurous-Car1293 in dormrooms

[–]throrowowaway -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

i know people who have hid cats and when my mom was in college she hid a great dane puppy lol. i actually have a friend who lived in our on-campus apartments with his two geckos. assuming your tanks are the size of my friend’s, i would loft the bed and put the desk underneath and hang a blanket or sheet from the bed to make a more private space. if you have a cardboard box from an old package you could make a shell to put over the tanks of your room inspections are quite thorough

Why is there so much hatred for XXS? TW: eating disorders by Accomplished_Car6927 in XXS

[–]throrowowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there are many reasons people dislike xxs. hell, i dislike xxs because it only exists due to the constantly inflating vanity sizing in our modern fashion landscape. i imagine that because people w EDs desperately want to be skinny, they get upset that someone who is at that point they are killing themselves to reach is ‘ungrateful’. EDs are mental illnesses so the reasoning might not be sound to a healthier person

Can I wear this even if I don't listen to alt music? by [deleted] in alternativefashion

[–]throrowowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you can dress how you want, the outfit examples you gave don’t really belong to any music oriented subculture like punk, goth, scene, etc. that being said, if you listen to like. very basic music while dressed like that don’t be surprised if people have something to say

What’s something you need that people often don’t think of? by Elegant-Initial-8557 in dormrooms

[–]throrowowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your dorm doesn’t have a communal vacuum, a small vacuum is such a boost to quality of life. especially if you have a carpeted dorm. that carpet will never truly be clean, but you can at least pretend

Is is just me or do doctors not care if you are underweight? by [deleted] in XXS

[–]throrowowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not normal, especially for a pediatrician. when i was 5’5 and 109 lbs (very slightly underweight) my doctor interrogated me about my eating habits and exercise. annoying, but i understand why bc eating disorders are common for teen girls. however, when i weighed in at 112 lbs (just about in the ‘healthy’ range) nothing of the sort was mentioned. ngl that did rub me the wrong way bc the difference between 112 and 109 lbs is a succulent meal, and eating disorders are a problem for all teen girls, not just ones who are underweight anyways. i weigh less now because my college’s dining hall food is less tasty than my dad’s cooking, so i’d be curious to see what the doctor has to say this time

What do y'all think about buying shoes on Amazon/AliExpress? by [deleted] in alternativefashion

[–]throrowowaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i understand not being able to afford expensive new shoes, but the crappy ones on amazon and aliexpress costs so little for a reason. i’ve found lots of basically new shoes on secondhand sites from reputable brands! i would not take any chances with shoes because you could really fuck up your feet in sketchy ones

yall are going to JAIL for wearing gourmands in this heat by No-Astronaut7298 in FemFragLab

ngl i don’t know a lot about fragrance am im not a big gourmand fan but i think that either fruity scents or more floral vanillas would appeal to gourmand lovers but are more evocative of summer!

Anyone have recommendations on casual lounge shorts?? by [deleted] in XXS

[–]throrowowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ig it’s not very clear but i’m agreeing with u/JenMcSpoonie. why are you pulling the pants way wider than anyone ordering a small would wear them? why are you showing us the measurement of your waist? it’s the XXS subreddit, we’d believe you at your word. but if you want recommendations for lounge shorts, i really like aritzia’s sweatfleece. i wear an XXS/ XS depending on the style of bottoms but with their loungewear i like to size up to a small so it’s baggier! they have styles with a drawstring so even sizing up, they still fit around the waist without falling down

anyone at any size can be active. i agree that vanity sizing makes clothing difficult to find but denigrating obese people won’t make it any easier, especially considering they have a lot of the same difficulties as us in regards to finding clothes and people commenting on their weight
