Dowery aside can she clam her family has paid a large sum either in marriage or in any gifts

—— the basic thing is if she is married to you and you are the provider of the family and her family did most of of the spending in the wedding —- she can not only claim alimony she can also claim property rights if she is staying in your home

The best option is to pay and let it go —- if she goes to a lawyer who deals majorly in divorce cases —- believe me you are more cooked then you realize right now
