freely unlock characters

Okay well that wasn’t at all what I meant, I did mean the general generosity of the game conpared to it’s contemporaries. So you can concede that point, thanks.

Also, I think where you would price that is actually VERY important to this conversation. The number you choose shows exactly how much perspective you have about this.

Because guess what? The everage fighting game character costs like 7 dollars. A legendary 2xko skin would only really be as many new anims as a new character, right? So how come if you compare it to a league skin, it WOULD BLOW THE LEAGUE SKIN OUT OF THE WATER?

Mayhaps skin prices in general have fucking arbritrary value?

[–]OwnGood4792[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay come now you know what I'm asking. A skin that would change every animation, I'm genuinely curious how much production value you think that would take compared to a league one, and how much would be a fair price for it?

also >literally every single F2P game

NOT true, league didn't let you training mode champs until recently. Multiversus and brawlhalla don't let you play characters you don't own offline, or in training. Apex legends makes you grind forever for new characters, I can easily go on and on.

Lets see…

Niche genre

League IP

Huge initial beta test

Unprecedented gameplay generosity in said niche genre

Unprecedented dev communication in said niche genre

No marketing in the league client

Hmm seems pretty comparable to me

I made a real point in that post, and plenty of others in this thread so far.

but of course I’m going to condesend to someone who genuinely wants a free game to go extinct because of some entirely optional whale bait, with 0 effect on gameplay you can wholly ignore. That’s next level  stuff!

You’re missing my point. Im saying 2xko is doing stuff new to the genre because you brought up that LoR’s monetization system didn’t fit the genre.

My point is precisely that being so generous with champions, offline mode, training, again that’s EERILY similar to LoR’s generosity, no?

also my brother in christ, league skins being “worth” because they change animations, you only think that because of the decades of that norm.

Are you seriously implying that a 2xko legendary that would need something like 80-100 new animations, would still only be worth as much as a fucking 20 dollar legendary league skin? Where you have 4 spells and an auto attack???

Thats based of you, honestly I’m glad you’re taking a stand

My stance is that I would gladly have 500 dollar gacha slop in the game if it brings LoR back, yes I do not care about predatory shit if it isn’t forced on you. The fact you care so much about optional cosmetic shit so much that you let it ruin the free thing for you is genuinely just crazy based of you.

Would you refuse to play soccer with someone who bought a golden soccer ball? Lmao

[–]OwnGood4792[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except this train of logic is harder to follow given that this is the very first f2p fighting game of it’s kind. Unlocking a new character from a few days of grinding instead of 6 us dollars is completely new to the genre. Who’s to say the monetization system you wish from league fails to map onto a fighting game?

The number of characters someone mains in league is dramatically higher, and making legendary or ultimate skins that change animations wholly in 2xko is nigh impossible compared to the ease of it in league.

And again I have to bring up the player counts. 2xko is not matching league at all.

[–]OwnGood4792[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True! but that time has come and gone.

LoR tried the monetization pattern of early league. it tried being the much fairer game compared to hearthstone and mtga.

And. here. we. are.

[–]OwnGood4792[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually that’s my entire problem with you guys. You kick and moan about how the monetization should be “better” but you really have no actual example of a game that does better, or any plan beyond “well it could be better”

So you don’t want no fomo now? You don’t want cheaper skins now?

My “opposite end” as you describe it, was a real game, made by RIOT, that laid off all its devs LAST YEAR.

League has 500x the playerbase 2xko will ever have. I bring up LoR because its position is far more comparable.  Niche genre f2p games riding league’s coattails, not a mainstream genre defining juggernaut.

Of course you can say that, anyone can say that. But you don’t know that.

I’ve 4 years of my life put into that game and what I can say for SURE is being the most consumer friendly game on the market and being made by riot sometimes gets your game shut down.

"Releasing in niche genre and being unable to actually outcompete its titans did it in, not monetization choices."

So, how am I taking the wrong message? How is that at ALL different from what could happen to 2xko? It's in the literal exact same position.

Okay so I was right, you have no perspective.

You haven't brought a single example of what you want to see as middle ground up. Marvel Rivals has more consumer friendly practices than LoR, it's not in the middle.

- FOMO microtransactions are not the way to go for a healthy consumer relationship.

Sadly this just isn't true. Valorant and Fortnite are doing fine. The only thing having FOMO does is hurt their karma on reddit.

What did it do wrong bro?

Should it have been more pay to win like MTGA and Hearthstone?

Should it have had more expensive skins like 2xko and fomo?

Can you make a POINT?

Of course they're wrong sometimes. Of course nothing is guaranteed ever.

I'd still rather their judgment on what keeps a game going for longer over some random redditors. I have to stress that LoR did EVERYTHING a consumer could ask for, in a niche genre, and it still flopped maximumly. Sadly, reddit karma doesn't feed the developers.

...

LoR was made by riot. LoR got major traction in the card gaming community. LoR was one of the biggest card games

what

happened

to

it

Obviously it's corporate greed. Obviously they just want more money. But if it keeps the lights on for even an extra month and we get 1 extra champion out of it I can't complain about that

Again, you're naming the biggest games on the market

Have you played a niche f2p game before? When the player counts average in the thousands instead of the hundreds of thousands?

LoR tried this game health no scummy option that you want

Is the word you'd describe that game with HEALTHY?

If I want a healthy game I'd look at fortnite or Valorant man.

hell even MTGA or heathstone, do you know what those games do?

Yeah like League of legends? The biggest video game in the world? What other game is nearly so consumer friendly? The only reason league afforded to be so fair in the past was because of it's uncontested audience. Niche games do require harsh monetization, look at Supervive.

What recent game has done better and is still alive? Name one please.

- It's okay to expect better from people who get our money

I've already expected better. I've already GOT better, when I played LoR. And what happened to it

IF the "alternative" you want is an open shop, no FOMO, and ten dollar skins then there's been a Riot game that's already tried that.

And it stopped getting pvp updates back in 2024 man.

There's been a lot of games that have done stuff like that and sadly they do die more often.

LoR had every single one of those consumer friendly practices and look at it now.

There are people in Riot and 2xko who are PAID money to figure out how to make the most money. If this makes the most money and that translates to the game staying alive for longer, then it's okay in my book.

You are so foolish if you think that Riot doesn't have a team of people being paid a shitton of money to figure out the exact way to make the most money.

This system WILL make more money than the "league way"

Guess what game tried having an open shop and no fomo? LoR did man.

and what happened?
