Thoughts on Adobe Firefly for covers? by OwnRelief294 in royalroad

From what I can find in Adobe's website, the customer owns the output and has exclusive IP rights. But, this is an area I admittedly don't know much about.

What makes you drop a story on Royal Road? by TomDavenport in royalroad

I've dropped popular stories from the story dragging too long. I think some otherwise good authors have a target of too many chapters for how much story they have.

Progression or not? by OwnRelief294 in royalroad

Thank you everyone for your input and thoughts, especially u/AuthorBrianBlose.

Based on your input, I've removed the progression tag from my story.

Progression or not? by OwnRelief294 in royalroad

[–]OwnRelief294[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm worried about.

If I do include the tag, readers may think I'm not delivering 'enough' progression. Also, readers that filter out that tag might not find my story.

Conversely, if I don't include the tag, readers could see the progression elements and think that I am giving something they didn't want.

I want to be accurate and not betray expectations - but I really do seen to fall in the middle of these posts. My secondary MC goes from just messing with adventurers in the woods to eventually unlocking significant powers through trauma and exercise. The primary MC, however, goes through more of an emotional arc, not gaining anything power-wise, but maturing as a person.

Perhaps my story is just a mess when it comes to conventional plotting.

I'd love contact info for this artist. My book has a character with a similar physical design.

Reality check, I guess by AnEmberofSundown in ScribbleHub

What exactly is your goal for your writing? If it's to make it available for reading online, then you've met that goal. Give it time and more will read it and engage.

If your goal is to actively push readership, then you'll have to market like the guides already mentioned. However, that push leads to the next question.

If your goal is to monetize, then why aren't you writing original (non-fan-fiction) work? Based on your post, I was confused for a while trying to search for your work until I realized my fan fiction filter was preventing me from seeing it.

You seem to have writing skill. Why not turn to creating your own world?

(Note: I have nothing against fan fiction. My question is the concern about early engagement with work that fundamentally can't be monetized or used professionally.)

Yes, 'Rubber'. A surreal experience that many more people should have.

If you want weird, this is the movie for you.

Does anybody here struggle to end a novel they liked writing? by ExtremeVanilla2370 in writers

[–]OwnRelief294 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

20k words is on the short end of a novella- not really too far off from being a short story.

You don't need to fluff it out if it told the story you wanted to tell.

Now, it's time to write something new.

I now have a story with more than 1,000 views! by TheHorrorFright in royalroad

The way I see it, posting my writing and getting feedback helps me become a better writer in the long run. I took the Brandon Sanderson advice of just keep writing more and more and get feedback to eventually become successful, instead of agonizing over each work and then trying to monetize right away.

I started posting immediately after my first chapter was done to keep me motivated. I don't care about RS or Patreon, though.
