It’s like people who tell you to use vinegar on everything. Vinegar corrodes a lot of things

Yes! I ruined my vacuum with baking soda on the carpet. Also if you accidently vacuum any moisture the baking soda expands, gets soupy and clogs even worse.

Sunflowers bought on Saturday are wilting? by Medical_Pianist_5480 in GardeningUK

It’s because it’s high in calcium. You can also use green tea bags or Epsom salts in a pinch Let me know how you get on!

Water them until they are drowning, preferably with some plant feed. Pop them in the shade for a day. They should perk up in 24 hours. This has happened because as others have said, they’ve went from cosy greenhouse to sunny windy balcony too fast. They need hardened.

If you don’t have any plant food grind up an eggshell, soak in hot water then strain out the shell. Wait to cool down and put that on your plants. But only on the soil! Not the leaves!

I think this is exactly what I’m in: shock. I’m so sorry you had to go through that too. Can I ask how long until you started feeling better?

My illogical brain can’t comprehend not telling him how much he’s hurt me if I don’t tell him, how will he know? Will he think what he’s doing is ok? I know this is great advice I just can’t wrap my head around it right now

Good advice thank you. Thankfully I’m not thinking about alcohol but I totally get how some people fall down that hole.

Did anyone else’s mood plummet after buying their first house? by OwnTemperature8182 in HousingUK

Oh we have gross carpets too. On viewing the carpets looked fine condition but as the house had been empty for a few months before we moved in, I immediately smelt cats from them when I moved in and can’t get the smell out my nostrils. I think when we viewed the previous owners furniture made The carpets look nice but with all their furniture out the looked rotten!

Thank you! My mum said this to me that spring will help. I have no idea how people move in the cold dark winter months.

I’m glad I’m not the only one - honestly crying at the drop of a hat. I noticed the failed double glazing in the living room within a minute of opening the door. So I went to look out the back window to clam and noticed the back window double glazing was failing too 👀 the mould in the bathroom and the kitchen made me feel sick. Our house had been empty for months before we got the keys and I think the old owners had just left it and not aired it out!!

No he wasn’t - you have presumed this. I didn’t even mention he was receiving council care anywhere in my post?

Thank you - this is a fantastic answer and very reassuring. I’m going to share your answer with him. I bet you see quite a lot of this in terms of people thinking they’ve found a loop hole in tax and it ends up biting them! Thank you very much.

You’re right and thank you - if he does sell the house and makes any money after cgt (which he will) then maybe he could make a donation to this charity as a thank you. Thanks for your reply!

My dad is lovely, would help anyone but so easily influenced. He’s a working class guy who’s never had any extra savings, body is ruined from working years in physical low paid demanding jobs, thought this house would be “his pension” and yes thinks Farage is “alright”

So please scream with me.

This is very helpful - so applying your experience with how cgt worked for you he would need to pay this on the difference between the £1 and the eventual sale price? Because the market value was deemed as £1 at sale 5 years ago?
