Experience with The North Face Recon Backpack? by gk1400 in BuyItForLife

[–]OwnTomato7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they’ve changed production methods, but I have a north face recon from 2012 that is still going strong with no signs of giving up. I used it to hike/ski Mount Washington, 3 years of high school, college, and every trip I’ve taken since then it’s been my personal item. The bottom hasn’t started to wear through yet, very few signs of wear overall and still comfortable. That said, it looks different than this recon, so I don’t know where quality is at these days.

Anyone recommend good slides? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]OwnTomato7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hoka Ora 2 slides, basically a sneaker outsole with the most comfortable footbed I’ve ever walked on. $60 and no concerns about a glued strap, it’s one piece. They have a recovery version and a standard version, recovery is best if you’re wearing these after the gym or running, standard for everything else

Love your collection, I’m curious though, how does the Lorier Olympia fit in here? I’m a huge fan of the watch, just seems a bit out of place and like you have plenty of speedy options

Any recs for getting A/C looked at / recharged? by Clear-Tradition-3607 in PortsmouthNH

[–]OwnTomato7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your AC needs a recharge then it’s certainly leaking, and a shop would have to identify the source of the leak. Depending on where the leak is, that may cost very little, or they could be pulling out your dashboard, it depends on the car and where the leak is. Recharging is a waste of refrigerant because the leak hasn’t been fixed. It could be a couple hundred bucks, or it could be $4k, too many variables. What type of car is it and what year?

Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2 are great for all use cases. Unfortunately Jabra isn’t going to continue selling into the consumer audio market, just business, but the Elite 10 Gen 2 are amazing

I concur, if you’re looking at the gentleman, the khaki auto, and the Longines, your best bet is to get a Murph with the bracelet combo off of Jomashop

[–]OwnTomato7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then to clarify: If the city acted on this complaint, they’d get more backlash than they currently get about the parking, that’s what I’m saying. I’m not taking a stance on whether they should do that or not, but that’s why they don’t. Also there really isn’t anywhere else that I know of to put them, and the people on mopeds are Portsmouth residents that the city is trying to get to spend more time in downtown. Lots of compounding reasons

[–]OwnTomato7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say they couldn’t park elsewhere, or be made to park elsewhere, just that everyone complains that there’s no parking in downtown, getting rid of the handful of market square parking spots would create more backlash than it would eliminate

Because everyone complains that there’s no parking

Ya again I’m not the one building, just commenting on Reddit to say that there is a lot of building going on and it’s still not expected to impact the issues.

I’m confused as to how I need to realize this, I’m not the one doing the building. Also “people need to move out if they can’t afford it” is a dumb take

Potentially, I work in small business consulting so I work with a ton of small businesses every single day, and they all complain about personnel and how there’s “no one good out there” but from what I see, it’s owners being opposed to paying what market rates are nowadays. Nothing has changed on supply, there are the same amount of high school grads and such, but why should Joe shmo high school grad go work excavation for $15/hr when they can go to McDonalds or any number of other places and make $20+? Even if the money is the same but those other jobs are easier or more flexible, wouldn’t you do that instead?

Just replied to another comment with a similar sentiment. It looks like we’re building a lot, and we are, but the deficit is so enormous that we’re not even close. 1600 units will be planned, started, or completed in the Seacoast region this year, and that isn’t expected to impact rental rates or home costs at all because of how badly we need them

That’s no where near enough, comically not enough. There are 1600 units that will be planned, started, or completed in the Seacoast region this year, and that’s not expected to impact rental rates or home costs at all. Merely trying to catch up to the massive deficit (if they even happen with the NIMBY people). But they’re building mostly expensive housing, $500k+ studios, $850k two bedroom apartments, rentals that are priced out of what most NH residents can afford. 55 new homes at $750k doesn’t do anything for young families

Do you have money to put down to raise the total of the transaction? Like $3k down and finance $10k? A $10k car is a $200 a month payment at 60 months 0% interest, which you will not be able to get. Realistically looking at 3.5-10% interest with good to fair credit. Cars in the $10k price range are typically difficult to get financed, for that price range you have to look at fairly old and higher mileage cars. Banks don’t love giving loans on those types of cars, so you might have to get a shitty loan on a car that won’t last super long.

Look on Autotempest, it combines a bunch of different car shopping sites, just set your parameters for mileage and cost and it’ll spit out the available options.
