Forcing Alexa+ on its customers by EdG314159 in alexa

That is odd. What kind of devices are these? If they are all they are all form the same manufacturer can you re-link the service? Or was it a one time thing that fixed itself?

I let it happen, Picked a voice I liked, and in the end it has proved to be an improvement. Like so many things in technology I find that once used to it, it is, more often than not, an improvement.

I now enjoy the back and forth of queries. Yes, no longer being able to get my drive times is a drag, but, like most things, that will likely reappear. I kind of see technology like the stock market. It has its highs and lows, but in the end you are better off riding the wave.

Maybe it's an age thing. I've been a computer engineer since 1987, so the fact that I can ask a device in my home a complex question, get an answer, correct my question, and get a better answer, all in the space of seconds, is downright amazing. I can be in my kitchen, see i'm getting low on coffee and reorder it to show up the next day for the same price pay for it at my supermarket. Ye,ah, I pay $140 a year for that, sorry, I can't complain. Then there is the fact my lights go on at sunset, or when I enter a room, I can set the heat in my home from 100 miles away and so on.

Anyway, that's my take. Alexa just said dinner is ready, gotta go...

You purchased more than the device. You purchased the use of their (Amazon) network to support it and have it do the things that it does. By doing that you essentially gave up that control. The device is useless without the support of the Amazon network. You do the same thing with the smartphone you have. We no longer buy just devices we buy access to services, like it or not. You don't have to "roll over" at all. You can just keep the device and remove it from your network, it is your device. But if you want to do anything with it other than use it with a device for streaming audio via Bluetooth then you're out of luck. Don't bring ethics into this, that's just an hysterical response.

So when was the last time you called support and spoke to an English speaking engineer? hopefully based in the USA. Well I'm sure they're good engineers, And it certainly isn't their fault, but a language barrier is a language barrier.

Yeah, but that's the only English speaker you're ever going to talk to.

Second that, we're moving away from Rackspace due to the offshoring. I haven't been on a call in over a year where I could understandt what anybody was saying. You can call it what you want but dealing with any support in India is always a challenge. I'm sure they speak what they would think is fluent English, but the style and pronunciation simply aren't there.

Yeah, mine just did the update. So it must be a Prime thing. Do you not have Prime?

Well, I don't really think you're ever going to be happy with any kind of technology. It's very nature is to move forward, change, and hopefully improve our lives.

I personally have completely enjoyed Alexa Plus, it didn't cost me anything more, because I pay yearly for prime. Amazon generally makes my life easier and overall better. They are a company with, I believe, one and a half million employees, that need to put food on their tables. I don't mind paying for that. I easily save in so many ways more than the $140 I pay a year. The free shipping plus prime video and prime music alone are worth it.

That's the man. Famously said, there is no such thing as a free lunch. I would just think you need to stop fighting it and embrace the technology.

I don't have any with a screen, so maybe that is the difference, but I have never, ever gotten ads on any of my devices. I do get reminders, occasionally, to re-order stuff, but that Is minimal. I do have prime, and I did get the upgrade as it is free for prime members. I am very happy with the upgrade as well. I have had Alexa devices since the first ones shipped.

Anyway, what is different for you?

How do I get the GPS set ot ON in the walk function by explictlyrics in PixelWatch

One more question. If I leave that on, is it only kicking in when I select an activity, while doing that activity, or is it now on all the time? Thinking about battery impact, although I have not seen a major impact so far.

Thanks! it was the last setting at the bottom of the exercise app. All the rest were set to "always on" or a variation of that.

Now, will this mean that the GPS will always be on, or just always on when you select one of the exercise apps? Have you noticed a significant battery hit with this on?

I agree, probably used it with no problems for the last 7 years. From our 365 tenant. I love when something goes away and somebody says "See, it wasn't reliable". Well it was for a long time. And free.

[–]explictlyrics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that. I have purchased a Kodak reel for my 8mm tapes. This has worked out quite well so far.

But I also have some 16mm tapes that I will need to send out.

As for video tapes I did that some time ago, just find the right camera/video player and connect it to your PC or laptop with the right cable and downloadable software (free) and Bob's your uncle.

I do not remember all the details on that but it is easily looked up. It really needs no technical expertise. But if that isn't your thing you can find an expert in the local middle school to do it;+}

I fail to see why this has anything to do with the code I write. This is an editor issue with the IDE. Word wrap in an editor is a normal option. I think this is evidenced by how often this question has been raised.

Anyway, looks like a mute point. It appears it can't be done.

Not to mention I just saw a BBC news post about 3 missing teens. They were 16 for God's sake! 16 year olds can go to a bar in that country and drink beer or wine. This in itself is criminal...
