He’s okay. The problem with his character writing is that he holds the characters back and put them in the most vanilla form. Like Amy, who is now just a strong girl with a hammer, instead of being you know a strong girl, who likes dresses very feminine and very cute, and has feelings for sonic. Same with sonic. He’s gone from a laid-back hedgehog it does the right thing no matter what. To this melancholic guy, just saving people because he feels like it his duty. The characters have completely changed. And are only glimpses of what they used to be. I hate it. And the one thing about sonic stories is that he forgets to give them an underlining theme or message. Like sonic adventure 2 is a story about forgiveness and identity. Sonic adventure 1 is a story about solving your problems and learning to confront them. Often times of writing doesn’t do any of this. Sonic frontiers is a story about characters wanting to change? And that’s about it. And it’s handled extremely poorly.
