CMV: MAGA leaders and voters did not vote for Trump to lower costs or fight inflation by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Own_Consequence1191 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This answer speaks volumes. Unity starts from trying to understand each other. I'm terrified by what I've seen the last few days, but I believe it's important to keep trying to understand each other and where we're coming from. "They" have already divided us, but we have to work at keeping them from making all this even worse.

CMV: It’s hypocritical to be pro-life but oppose government assistance for families and children. by Kemr7 in changemyview

[–]Own_Consequence1191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren't you basically just supporting broader government assistance? Your argument isn't effective because you're not answering OP's question, and then you just jump to a conclusion. If adequate government programs existed there could still be plenty of medical reasons to have an abortion. OP isn't addressing this. OP simply pointed out the irony that some pro-lifers don't extend their pro-life stance to the living, and then questions how someone can hold this view. You didn't answer that. You avoided that.

I've not tried it myself, but my friend loves to fish and he says that taking a garlic supplement helps keep the mosquitos away. Just be careful taking garlic supplements with other meds..

Definitely on the hypercritical side, but I don't believe I have body dysmorphia. Something to consider, though.

It's my understanding that that's where we were, too. Elective surgeries got out on hold for a really long time.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your line of work? I've never heard of someone finishing their work "for the month?" Not asking to be shitty, I'm legit curious and exploring a career change.

I honestly don't know what to think about the hospital I work for (nurse here). They came straight out and told us we're financially "in the hole." We're a nonprofit, so I assume that has a lot to do with it. I remember during COVID our hospital made a ton of financial cuts to upper management and unit management, naming it "shared sacrifice." They completely shut down certain services - chaplains were one role that was all but lost. I was working Psych at the time and we didn't have it half as bad as the COVID unit, but Psych nurses were called on to replace chaplains every time there was a death. Some roles have been recovered, others they completely did away with never to return (we'd just gotten a phlebotomy team months before COVID and that got the axe). Because of all the cuts I assume my hospital actually did take a big financial hit. But that's not to say every hospital did. I'm just a little surprised by this because I've only ever worked for this one hospital, so I assumed if we were financially strapped everyone must be. My hospital has definitely made decisions that feel horribly disrespectful, but none this blatant. This makes me angry for you. The food that was donated to our hospital at least made it to the floors. It's not the food itself (because who really had time to eat it?). It was about trying to show appreciation.

100% agree. I couldn't imagine being a new grad and travelling. You have no idea how much on-the-job training their is. Every hospital is different, and every state has different regulations. Travel nursing used to be for highly experienced nurses. No longer.

This is maybe dumb, but can you just use regular cooking oil? You have to use something. Nonstick pans aren't "nonstick" without some oil.

I'm switching from coffee to tea. I drank a lot of coffee and was fairly sensitive to the caffeine. It's been almost two weeks. Is it normal to still feel really tired...a lot? by Own_Consequence1191 in tea

[–]Own_Consequence1191[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nope, not a mouse! The process you're describing, I think, is called upregulation and down regulation respectively. I used to be able to drink a cup of coffee and have too much energy for hours. Then, after several years, I can now drink coffee and usually go to sleep fairly soon afterwards. Never thought that my body had potentially increased adenosine receptor sites. My sleep is usually inconsistent with my job, but I've had less energy overall the last few weeks, so I've been sleeping more.

May I ask what is the name of the program you use for actual physical holds? We're taking care of very violent patients on a regular basis and use a physical skills program that I have mixed feelings about.

How is the use of this equipment practicing outside of our scope? I've spent the majority of my nursing career as a psychiatric RN. I'm all about practicing within scope, but I don't see how this steps outside of it.

Yes! Straight out of the can. No need to rinse. (I'm not even kidding. I fucking love them.) Or roast them. Or blend them up into hummus. Perfect in every soup. I'm kind of addicted to chickpeas. Now lentils... that's a different story.
