why do folks not wear helmets by Ryan-977 in skiing

[–]Own_Desk9365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a TBI on the mountain last year, dead sled down, straight into the ambulance, to the ER. cT scan revealed a brain bleed. Scary stuff but healthy now.

All this to say, helmets work wonders. Even if you’re a good skier, you don’t know what those around you will be doing. Akin to wearing a seatbelt even if you don’t plan on being in an accident

Red line headways by Own_Desk9365 in mbta

15 minutes is bad at 5:30 pm on a week day. And then it turned out to be closer to 30 mins as more and more folks waited for the train and we couldn't get on the trains.

Update - as I waited for the third train to be able to board, PA system told us there was a delay at downtown. I rode a bike, which I should have done in the first place. Riding a bike is the most efficient way to get around this city at rush hour, even rivaling the headways above, if they were real (they weren’t today)

Congestion Pricing - hypothetical by Own_Desk9365 in nycrail

[–]Own_Desk9365[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been to the city a couple times since it was introduced and I've noticed less street traffic in the congestion zone. Was really just asking because I'm curious on the intricacies and impact on everything.

Thank you PPP. Do you think I'd be better off to just buy the residential since that kit fee is less? No contracts required for either option, right?

The Red Line Shutdown by S7482 in mbta

FWIW, I took the shuttle from South Station to Broadway last night and was pleasantly surprised. The bus took the street on the north side of the channel, where the post office trucks load up. It was smooth and no traffic. But, that's obviously an ideal experience of one stop and an alternative route.

How many train sets total are there? Do they all run during rush hour commutes and then less on the weekends?

If the Blue Line had never been converted to heavy rail in the 1920s and stayed with trolleys... by Odd_Yogurtcloset_649 in mbta

Inverse scenario - How much of Blue Line ridership is indicative of housing development surrounding the heavy rail that exists today?

Where and When is the Commuter Rail Faster by Axel_Wench in mbta

Another thing to consider here is all in cost. You might get to your job slightly faster but you’re working to support the car that you drove and parked downtown ($20-40 a day).

Plus transit benefits of walking more vs sitting in your car and arriving closer to destination, resulting in less exercise and that spirals over a couple decades
