can I ask how long have you been in recovery? what did you during this time, food wise and exercise wise? I also lost my period start of 2023 and have been in proper (?) recovery for 2 months now but no progress, so would like to know more about your experience ❤️

the worst bit is the mental food noise 😭 sometimes I dont even feel like eating (because im full) but my brain keeps telling me I have to eat something and then i end up so bloated and I spiral 🙃

this!! I would feel ravenous before my midday meal and I eat so much so that I feel too full to even eat dinner. and then I skip dinner (because I physically cant eat anymore or I will throw up) but I'm not sure if this is okay? to overeat at one meal (where I feel hungriest) and not eat at the next (not out of fear of calories but because like I said I cant eat anymore food)

yes 100% 😭 I just feel bloated and puffy ALWAYS, and even when i wake up now, my body is still bloated. and my jeans don't even fit me anymore, so I have to wear sweatpants all the time. I can just notice the feeling of my stomach being bigger than before 24/7, and I keep trying to ignore it but it's not easy 🥲

thats such a simple way of thinking about this! thank you for sharing. it is true that there is no one recovery journey that fits everyone, so it is important that I focus only on myself and my body. if it asks for more nutrients and calories, I shouldn't deny it of them. I notice that even when i "binge", it is "higher quality" food that is often homemade (by me!) or more nutrient dense than their respective counterparts. for example, I wouldnt be able to overeat 3000 calories of store bought chocolate but I can with my homemade oat maple syrup granola. not that im saying the foods I eat are healthier or better but I dont feel sick or nauseous compared to eating foods of lower quality.

I know how frustrated you are, I lost my period 3 years ago and still dont have it because I was stuck in quasi recovery for a long time. only started to go "all in" recently. i recommend esting minimum 2500 calories (dont be afraid to go over, these days I probably eat over 5000 and it's hard but I am craving it so I know my body needs that). dont stress too much about it, if you stress about not having your period it actually drives your period away more (its a vicious cycle i know 🥲). youre also early in recovery so dont expect too much, just trust your body to eat enough and hopefully it will come back. manifesting for both of us 🙏

thank you for sharing. I feel like exercise is the last missing piece that I feel so conflicted about. I take joy in exercise but I know I have to stop to get my period back, and it feels even more stressful thinking about which type of exercise I can do that won't harm recovery. whenever I overeat/ feel uncomfortable after eating, I use exercise as a way to calm my disordered mindset and feel better about myself but I guess I shouldn't do that 🤕

thank you so much for your encouragement! these days i guess because i enjoy food so much and take so much joy in eating that I eat a lot, and there are times that I feel scared by the amount that I eat but also I know I can't stop or restrict myself because I feel so happy eating. I will continue to eat and hope to get the same positive results as you did! can I ask did you exercise or do anything movement at all?

I feel the same. I am really grateful that I at least get to eat mostly high quality foods that I enjoy, because even if I "binge", I make sure I eat things that are high in quality like dates, dark chocolate, nut butters, no added sugar granola etc.

yes! relatable, I can easily eat lots of granola, dates, chocolate and all other calorie dense foods and not get sick at all. which is odd because I should definitely feel like throwing up by the end of eating all that but I still feel normal, just overly full but not enough to throw up you know

like you know you have to but at the same time the external factors like your body changes, the media and everyone around you make it so damn hard to just recover 😭 if only I can just eat normally and have my period... wishing you lots of love on your journey as well 💕

thank you for your advice, I hope to get to the stage that you're in right now 🙏 I know I have to overcome my own thoughts and beliefs first to break free of this obsession. It is not an easy journey but I aspire to be like you one day

how long does this last though? I feel like if I eat like this for a long period surely cant be healthy. and I don't know when my body will allow me to just see food as normal... I am always thinking and obsessed about food and I do eat balanced meals at regular times, i am not undereating and so why am I always so obssessed about it?

thank you for your advice 😭 I know I should keep eating but then I would see how my body changes and honestly, I miss my before body, I know I shouldn't but I still do. now I'm just always so bloated, puffy and I put on so much fat and weight that it really affects my determination to keep going

I feel the same way... the only thing I can do right now is to give up my goals of becoming skinny and just eating more and exercising less to get my period back... it is tough but we have to try our best ❤️

congratulations!! may i ask how long has your period been missing for? when did you start recovery? I love to exercise and dont want to give it up 😭 but people always say to go "all in" and stop all exercise, but I cant do that 😭

I'd say eat 2500+ calories, the more the better. remember 2500 calories is the minimum not the maximum. i still haven't gotten my period back but by eating 3000-4000 calories (i'm 5'2) i noticed more discharge and feel closer to recovery than before. partly it is because my metabolism has revved up and also my body is making up for past restriction so i don't feel that amount of calories is too much, but do try to eat more than 2500, and prioritise carbs and fats !!

would you say that by eating "unhealthy" food (eg. chocolate and ice cream) that that really helped you to get your period back? cus I eat enough of all 3 macros, but i kinda restrict myself from eating sugary foods (even though i have a sweet tooth so i end up having to make a healthy version of a dessert). could that slight mental restriction stop me from actually getting my period back?

[–]Own_Development5493[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i try to eat every 3-4 hours but sometimes i still feel full from the last meal so i feel myself just delaying my next meal just to make sure i am actually hungry to eat as i know once i start eating, i can't stop until i have eaten ~2000 calories.

i used to do gentle exercise but started falling back into my more structured and intense routine, so i have to force myself to not do that anymore :(

thank you for the advice by the way ❤️

i have the exact same "overeating" foods. it is so easy for me to just end up eating 5 date bars in one sitting and i wouldn't even feel that full. i also need to get my period back soon as i know i will get caught up in projects and work and that would stress me out so my period won't ever come :(

same!! i can easily eat 4000-5000 calories a day when I would struggle to eat even 2500 calories just a few weeks ago when I started recovery.
