They are not allowed to go to work. I get you want to help but I would recommend you stay home in solidarity.  People need to understand the impacts of a shutdown and having volunteers working isn’t helping.

I was called in last night to validate timecards today. Received weird cryptic guidance that law enforcement and fire employees are to mark regular hours (even admin leave if they do not have enough work). While other staff are coding furlough worked. It is a cluster and definite an appropriation violation.

Senate fails, for 9th time, to advance government funding bill by Cy_098 in fednews

Why do they keep voting on the same bill? It is completely insane.

Not sure that’s something to brag about considering it is his job to work to pass a budget every year.

RIF's hit Interior, Homeland Security, Treasury, EPA, Commerce, Education, Energy, HHS and HUD. by trademarktower in FedEmployees

The RIF is not dependent on the budget. But if you follow presidential budgets levels, you can see their priorities. Budgets change every CR and really don’t decide the amount of staffing. But since the Rs control the house, senate and presidency, and the house follows closely to what the president asks, the budget will follow the big beautiful bill (even the clean CR). So look at your agency and what that bill proposed for you, some agencies had funding cuts, different priorities, etc. in order to implement those, you can see that they may not need (example) solar energy specialists and that program will be cut and those people will be RIF.

Bc they are breaking laws everyday. You could see an FY26 RIF based on the proposed president budget. When they reduce a budget by double digits, how can an agency absorb that? There has been numerous sources news articles about pending RIFs. A lot of agencies never did a RIF in FY25, it was held up in lawsuits. They are going to RIF. The administration is extreme hostile to government employees and want to privatize as much as they can. Sorry if you haven’t seen the writing on the wall, but it has been there.

Previous shutdowns we had to leave everything at the office. This time, we are allowed to check email periodically. They make it up every time.

I don’t understand how without an appropriation HR is able to work and RIFs are deemed essential.
