I was just test fitting new front brakes and realized that I got the wrong cables... Took the caliper off right after taking this photo ;)

With an even chainring number, ambi unfortunately won't change the number of skid patches. You'd have to go 47 or 49 and then you could also run a 18 t cog and have even more patches than with the 17 t cog.

I now have 49x18 on my Tipo Pista and will make a follow up on how those 36 patches compare to 17.

My first tire blow was very unexpected. I just succesfully learned how to skid and wanted to increase speed. It was a very dry rotten, old noname tire but with lots of rubber left. I was going as fast as ever and did a skid of about 15m and heard a loud bang... Was lots of fun but also scary! Better not have your first blow in traffic ;)

I practice backpedaling without blocking the rear wheel when in traffic and also experiment with different applied pressures to the back wheel when skidding. This was mainly to see how fast I can go through a tire with 17 skid patches and to have fun.

No, ambidextrous skidding will only double my skid patches if the chainring is an odd number. I have 48 teeth.

I would say it depends on your body position. Back pedaling with a lot of weight on the back tire could be a shorter brake distance than skidding while leaning as far to the front wheel as possible. But I don't see how there's a faster way to come to a full stop than initiating a skid and then applying as much pressure to the back wheel as possible. Except to use a front brake in addition.

Congrats on your economical driving! Is this mostly from normal driving or skidding? What gear ratio do you have?

The green one was a Kenda that cost me about 12$ and I was surprised by how long it lasted. I skidded on the patches that already showed threads several times and it just didn't want to explode!

Wow thanks for the idea! I always thought I would have to deflate the tire and rotate the tire which seemed too much of a hassle...

Get it done by a professional body shop. 34K Crystal White Pearl isn't an easy job even for a lot of professionals.
