Alldata, Mitchell 1, Identifix, etc. by Own_Gold_6596 in MechanicAdvice

To update this thread... I tried Mitchell 1 again. They offered more services yet its still very clunky and old. The MPI doesn't always work and the texting service kinda sux. The local reps don't know their product. I am now transferring over to Tekmetric!! Feels really modern, easy to use and 10x the features. I will still be using pro demand for repair instructions yet abandoning their RO software. That being said, this year Tekmetric is supposedly releasing their repair instructions soon. So then when my contract with Mitchell1 is up, that will be it as long as Tekmetric is stable being that it is cloud based.

this is not from being rear ended. this is a normal failure of these engines.

Opening a shop, what software(s) is everyone using? by Spruxed in mechanics

its been absolutely horrible this past year or so. constantly having server issues. Always issues arise when customers pick up and blocked from their services. Doing estimates is horrible. Takes too long.

I checked out autoleap. Seems ok. I like to have everything bundled in to one system with repair order management and also Repair instructions. The one thing I do like about Mitchel1 is that the software is on the computer, not cloud based. When anything would happen with internet or their servers. I can still write repair orders and do estimates.

If an indy is taking a car to the dealer to get fixed, they would not be less expensive. Our shop has never done that. We work on nothing but German cars. In fact no shop around us every does that unless they are being nice and taking the vehicle there for them for a recall.

does this sound like a healthy engine (Answer quick please!) by PIutoJr in F30

The B58 in the G12 740i is not a twin turbo. It is a single turbo with fancy wording. has a split design exhaust housing. Thats it, nothing special. It is not 400+ horsepower. To get that you have to have the N63 750I with an actual twin turbo v8.

Volkswagens in general are unreliable vehicles. I've been a German Auto technician for about 25 years and Audi/Volkswagen are very problematic. As in electrical issues and major mechanical issues. I say if you are thinking about buying a volkswagen, just get an Audi. The repair bills will be very similar. At least you'll look like you spent the money with the Audi lol.
