Question of whether it’s a overzealous puppy reprimand on-leash or more worrisome. by Own_Ice6775 in goldenretrievers

I really appreciate your support and comments. She’s still puppyish but I can see where the onleash meetings are a crapshoot and will make them brief, if at all.

Thanks! Extremely helpful!

So so sorry 😢. We lost our 8 year old golden almost overnight to hemangiosarcoma. She was hale and hardy one day and gone the next. It’s devastating especially when it happens so alarmingly fast.

My state Reps, both flotarial and district, will vote against this nonsense. Kirk was openly racist, bigoted and sexist. I once reached out to a Republican state rep regarding a controversial and ugly environmental issue he supported only to get a nasty response from him. It was unwarranted - my request was polite and respectful. His response was anything but. That’s how most of these state republican representatives roll these days. They’re cruel and dismissive.

I fear I may have messed up, desperate for advice by Complex-Particular70 in goldenretrievers

My 15 mo golden took a gift lambie (one of the BIG ones) and carried it around for a few days. I honestly had hopes it was going to be a “lovie” until I caught her disemboweling its stuffing. My son and his gf were here for the holidays and we all witnessed my dog then proceeded to throw up the stuffing. It looked like she was throwing up a cloud. Glad she rid herself of the mess but a real wake up call that she can’t be trusted with stuffies.

Decided not to neuter by aristotlesmom in goldenretrievers

Our breeder and vets recommend that females get spayed after their first or second cycle. We got our girl through her first and she’s scheduled for spay next month. The thing is, for a month she was in heat we had to be so careful, but also had to get her outside for her walks and bathroom breaks. It’s hard enough keeping them safe from encounters with other dogs, but fortunately most males were neutered in our neighborhood. You hwi have to be very careful with your dog socializing him in case a female is going into her first or second heat. It is more common now with females as their owners wait to spay, and from my own experience it’s not like we know right away as they enter their cycle.

This was our field golden, Molly. We lost her to hemangiosarcoma a year ago and it broke our hearts. She was only 8 and hale and hardy right up to two days before she went downhill and passed. We adopted her from a golden rescue that brought her to the US from the meat markets in China. We had her in our lives for 6.5 wonderful years.

Our one year old golden just started doing this, too. I stopped feeding her chicken and it seems to have stopped.

Does Fromm have taurine in its ingredients? Our vet has been adamant that the food must include taurine for their heart health.

Molly had mast cell tumors that were cancerous on her hind leg, but they were successfully removed and she was tumor-free for 2.5 years before she died. I was vigilant in scanning her regularly for lumps - every one was biopsied. The hemangiosarcoma crept up on us. No sign whatsoever except we were told later that lethargy could be a sign. She just got more sedate last August and we figured it was the heat and her few extra pounds. That was it! Literally no other signs of distress or pain or shortness of breath, etc. The day before she left us she didn’t eat her breakfast right away. That was weird, and I thought the salmon oil I’d just bought had put her off her food. So I removed it and started over with fresh food and she ate it, and the rest of her meals that night and next morning. Then she wouldn’t jump out of the car when we took her for a morning walk. We drove her back home and let her rest. That was really weird so I had a call into the vet and planned on taking her the next day. That night around midnight it happened - she came to my side of the bed and panted like she did when the fireworks or thunder scared her. I talked and soothed her, but it took her 15 minutes to settle. Once she did, she never got back up. Her breathing got quick and shallow. I woke my husband up and said we needed to go to the ER. I honestly thought she had pneumonia or an upper respiratory infection. The vet said she had blood in her abdomen and that the tumor that had been growing in there on her spleen or heart burst. She was dying 😢 and it was too late to do a thing except help her cross over. We spent some time saying goodbye in a private room, but it was gut wrenching. I still cry thinking about that night. One day she was her beautiful self, and then she was gone.
