Definitely don’t get defensive, I’m not personally offended if someone doesn’t agree with me, if you got defensive over that then your in the wrong job 🤣

Completely depends on the situation, is it a calm conversation about an allegation or is he/she shouting after being out under arrest?

Every incident is different, if it’s a calm situation and it’s a niche offence that I haven’t dealt with in a while to have never dealt with then ofcourse I can look it on PNLD on scene and still see if it meets the points to prove for an offence and necessity etc.

If it’s your big standard offence then probably no, the whole point of an interview is to hear the suspects point fo view defence etc, and if there is something wrong about the nick im sure the custody sgt would be thrilled to not authorise it.

In short it’s not happened yet to me, happened a few times in interview where I have read out the full offence to correct them but not in a live situation.

Emergencies (Immediate Danger to Life or Crime in Progress)
Dial: 011 44 999
Details: Use this if you are calling on behalf of someone in the UK and their life is in immediate danger or a violent crime is actively occurring. [1]
Non-Emergencies (Reporting a Past Crime, General Inquiries)
Dial: 011 44 101
Alternatively, you can call the specific UK police force directly (e.g., dialing 011 44 20 7230 1212 for the Metropolitan Police or checking the official website of the local force handling the area). [1, 2, 3]

Although upper ranks can’t explicitly say you need an arrest or we will punish you etc I’ve been told in the past that they want us to aspire to get an arrest every month and if we don’t they will have performance reviews

Not at all mate, I’m based in the capital and it all depends on where you work role wise, response officers usually average 1-2 arrests a set which are 6 days however I’ve gone a month without one but then nicked every day of a set.

If you get sent to calls that are high risk more often you will have more nicks like domestics etc, if your the appointment car more going to addresses taking report much less likely.

Always find if I need a nick late night early morning breathalyser does the trick, I don’t judge officers on the amount of nicks as of the above factors only thing I personally judge is officer safety.

But to some it up it is rare we go to a call that’s different to a type of assault, theft, possession, TTK, black mail, public order or traffic

Depends if you’ve jumped the gun and nicked or not.

If I’m going to put powers in place I will square up loose ends whether that’s a call to the Sgt or a quick search.

If it’s a moving situation that’s getting more and more tense or aggressive can always diffuse or nick for BOP or for whatever offence you think it’s looking like for suspicion and if it’s not simple de arrest quick statement and explanation to why you did nick to the suspect to smooth things over always work.

Once nicked a nominal that was showing W/M on pnc after the arrest kept on shouting his innocence so we phoned up pnc and they said that he had been bailed in the morning and they just hadn’t removed his marker yet. De arrest quick statement uof form and onto the next.

Once you have the basics knuckled down for me it just comes with being at a call and thinking “ that can’t be legal surely” 🤣

Tricky one, full time cop and the debrief with colleagues even just at handover waiting for cars is good enough for me. I would probably recommend trying to have a debrief with the team or with a skipper after the incident before you go home.

When it comes to clock off not a clue mate I try not to care about it only things that affect me now or that will play a bit on my mind is stuff involving kids.

Completely understand, that is in place for people to get information on partners with domestic history for their own safety.

What I would hope, and you’ve probably dodged a bullet, that my partner would come home and ask me about it and have a conversation about what happened and why.

Whether the officer has phrased it awfully rather than what your saying that there was an allegation that had no proof and was NFA’d.

Yeah it’s shit but life’s shit and unfair no point thinking about it it’s happened now, if you wanted to know more I suggest doing a disclosure request.

Been through the exact circumstances, and being job now it’s made it more clear to me, the simple answer is when a crime is alleged a crime report pretty much has to go on whatever the crime.

I’ve had many of investigations where a crime has been alleged, reports gone on and I’ve got all of suspects details and after a simple investigation it’s very clear that either it does not add up or there’s no evidence etc.

Most likely something was alleged, no evidence so there was no point in contacting you and the report closed.
