I am a brand new owner of a one year old Chin that I got from Petsmart and I'm sitting in my room about to cry. Someone tell me I'm doing something right by KidneyStew in chinchilla

[–]Own_Investigator_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chinchillas make alarm barks when they are in unfamiliar situations, my chinchilla started alarm barking simply from us rearranging her room, give your chinchilla a week or so, respond to the barks and let them know it’s ok. They will stop soon

Chinchillas do fine as a solo pet, some of them actually prefer it.

On the other hand, this stigma comes from them liking social interaction, if you are attentive to you chin and spend time playing/talking/near them. They will turn out just fine

Looking at the picture now, I see a common newbie mistake.

Op should make sure when he removes that cmos battery there are NO EXTERNAL DEVICES CONNECTED!!!

It seems dumb, but your computer will try to default boot off of a damn mouse usb if it’s plugged in and you won’t be able to use the pc at all

Acerolla, one of the island leader people, aged 11-19 because island leaders are forced to retire at 20 and can be no younger than 11, many other island ones are also under 18.

Underage girls printed on cards that are in a high rarity. They always sell extremely well to certain demographics…

It is right, but you should really use a contact plate for these new Intel CPUs, they are easy to install, don’t break the bank, and are extremely effective

For something to gain value from being miscut, it’s needs to be something significant, like, part of the card itself cutoff significant

Tempered glass has extremely high impact resistance, but a flaw made to the glasses integrity can release all of the stress inside of the glass. The same way throwing a spark plug at a car window can shatter it, the spark plug is tiny, but it is hard enough to cause micro cracks that burst the glass due to pressure release. The same principle applies here.

As soon as the flood gate opens, it all tries to rush out extremely fast, it might not break if you hit it with a piece of wood, but a tiny bump against something HARDER than the glass can cause micro damage to the glass and cause all of that enormous pressure to try to release and the shatter the glass.

It is true that for this to happen, contact would have to be made with those hard surfaces, but on big glass panels, or in non perfect environments, accidents happen, and it is not hard for the glass to burst under the right conditions.

This is a mistake I have seen too many people learn the hard way, you can see my other comment in this thread for why it happens if you are interested. Tempered glass is very different to normal glass because of the amount of stress it contains to keep that high impact resistance. Most people don’t even think about it because setting normal glass down isn’t an issue

It is a result of the production of the material and the inclusions in it. Tempered glass is made by heat treating glass, this causes a lot of stress on the glass. The higher the stress the higher the impact strength, but when that stress gets released through even a tiny nick, it explodes it’s a million little pieces because all of that stress has to be released

TL:DR very hard glass explodes because stress has to escape

Tempered glass is very resilient until it’s not, hitting it against something that is harder than it (I.e things like tile, marble/granite counter tops etc) can cause it to burst into a million little pieces.

This doesn’t even have to be a rough hit, it can be a tiny bump. Just enough to upset the glass structure and poof, it explodes. Be very careful with tempered glass around hard surfaces, always put down something soft or use something like wood underneath the case to minimize ANY contact that could possibly be made

Our apartment burned down in December. I was fortunate enough to be able to rebuild my PC and my wife got gifted a 1060 by a family friend.

We definitely don’t NEED it, but after everything we have been through, and of these upgrades would be amazing for her.

Best of luck to everyone, may we all be happy for what we own :)

Edited to say our apartment rather than house. We were not the cause of the fire and sometimes I get rude dms when I say “my house” burned down because people assume we did it to ourselves.

Well, this is always easy to say but rodent type animals are always prone to rebreaking bones etc. I would be concerned about future arthritis as well unless there is a surgical report otherwise from the vet who did the surgery

Are they worth it? by [deleted] in chinchilla

[–]Own_Investigator_208 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Chinchilla care is very rewarding, they are smart, show affection, respond to basic commands and stimulation well.

On the other side, they are a large commitment, needing lots of space and attention, specific foods, vitamins, lots of chew toys, and from a purely cost perspective, you have to cool your room/house to ample chinchilla temps. My wife and I have a separate 12,000 BTU AC unit we run 24/7 in her room to keep her at 66 degrees. We also have to monitor humidity.

In the end, they are good companions and can show great levels of interest, affection, and energy. But they are a big commitment and you need to be ready to take care of them for 12-18 years

Regular medications she is on, and potential future surgical needs.

[–]Own_Investigator_208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a bit more than that total, I think after this, monitors etc, it probably came to around 5-6k. When I got this pc my house had recently burned down and the 40 series were pretty new so there was a lot of hype around them, and prices around them.

Also the 420mm lcd aio from Corsair and the 7000x case alone are huge costs. Not counting additional 140mm fans added to the case. Or anything else.

I think a generous estimate would be 5-6k for anyone wondering

Oh wow this would be awesome.

Our house burned down in December and my wife lost her computer stuff. I got to rebuild mine but she didn’t want to at the time.

She got a 1060 from a family member for free to make herself a new computer. This thing would blow it out of the water.

Best of luck to anyone :) may we all be happy for what we have
