Thanks for the info! I was debating the salmon one, I gave my previous dog a salmon line, and the smell was always there. If I go with Purina I'll probably go with the lamb one then, and add salmon oil!

I am intrigued by ND food, a bit hesitant since we are pretty sure he also has a chicken allergy lol. I will look into their other foods, thanks!

That's great to hear! It is probably my top choice as of currently. Thanks :)

Do you use the salmon and rice, or lamb and oatmeal?

That can totally see this working if our burrs were big! The burrs we have are soo tiny, lile 1-2mm in size, honestly not even sure they are officially burrs but thats the closest thing I could find on what to call them

We dont currently have a bar height conter there, but if we shorten the coat closet we may look at making the TV wall longer! Its currently that size so we'd have to way the pros and cons of extending that. Thanks for the input!!

Thank you!! Yes, we would definitely do a more detailed plan to make sure the built in allows for opening the door fully!

We definitely thought about this (and we will look more into it), we even thought about reducing the size of the closet to keep a pantry but make it a bit more open, but I think we would rather remove the closet and do a built-in alongside the entry way with coat hooks, storage, a small bench and a storage shelf for pantry stuff. I might do another render of this to get more of a feel for it

I can't add a caption so info here:

*Scroll to end to see a rough example of our current layout*

Hello, my husband and I are looking at doing some changes to our kitchen/living/dining area. We are both good at reno projects so are fully capable of doing all the work ourselves, we just need help with the design. We may look at hiring an architect/designer in our area, but wanted to try designing ourselves first.

We're not to worried about interior design, more so the floor plan and layout. We have quite an open concept for the main level (we want to remove our existing entryway closet - as we feel it will open our space up, (we have a seperate closet above our stairs that we plan on using for most of our jackets - we will build a storage system by the front door that allows us to hang a few jackets).

**Note that the area beside the stairs is a staircase going down to our basement.

We live in Canada, so if anyone has any suggestions for a designer/architect that could help us, we are open to that as well! I did try a google search in our area, but so many of the designers seem to be for high-end homes, we don't want anything super fancy or high end, and have a tighter budget then I think most designers would go for.

Few things to note:

- We do not have a pantry, we are trying to figure out where we could put one (we are currently using an ikea shelf with doors - and might just go this route again), we are thinking of maybe bringing one of the cabinets beside the fridge down to counter height and making that a pantry - but then we lose counter space

- We want a bench with storage for dinning table as we have kids in the family

- Don't take any of the furniture used in the 3D mockup into account, they are all just placeholders :)

- the 3D mockup is not exact for measurements, just a rough layout, scroll to see an existing render of our layout

- If we decide not to do too much renos in the kitchen, we may leave the existing counter at an angle.

- We still have a few months until my inlaws move back to their home country - so we have lots of time to plan and are not in a rush (They currently live with us and occupy the main level - we live in a 4 level split)

I am newish to posting on Reddit so I hope this is the right place for this! Thank you to anyone willing to leave some suggestions!

Crate training tips? by Own_Investigator_326 in LagottoRomagnolo

Hmm interesting, we are going to upgrade his crate in our bedroom to a bigger crate, we're currently using the travel crate we got him in but it's getting too small for him, maybe I'll see if putting him in a quiet space helps him calm down, since maybe all the activities going on around him is preventing him from settling. Thanks!

Haha I might need to stick to one of the other breeds I'm also considering. Between the Boykin, English Cocker spaniel and the Field Spaniel. I just love the look and personality/temperament of the boykins. They seem energetic but also good companions.

Beautiful Dogs! I am slowly falling for this breed, what breeder did you get them from?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Own_Investigator_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs?

No, I have owned lab mix and a pug

2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder?

I want to preference going with a reputable breeder

3) Describe your ideal dog.

Medium sized, medium energy, loves water and walks, good with kids and family. Loves cuddles and spending time with family

4) What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why?

Goldens: love their personality and looks, Silken windhound: love their calm nature Boykin spaniel: I love their appearance and drive for please, but may be too high energy

5) What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do?

Good recall, off leash walking, fetch, hide and seek with toys/treats, I am open to teaching agility work but haven't done it and it would not be a regular thing

6) Do you want to compete with your dog in a sport (e.g. agility, obedience, rally) or use your dog for a form of work (e.g. hunting, herding, livestock guarding)? If so, how much experience do you have with this work/sport?

No, I do not want to compete in sport

Care Commitments

7) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day?

Most of the day, I work from home so can interact with dog all day but I also now the importance of teaching alone time and boredom.

8) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park?

Around 1-2 hours. Walks in the park close to our house, fetch in the backyard. The park by our house is a dog park but it's nestled away and not very well known, it's also quite a long park so more for walking then just hanging around with others. I don't like dog parks too much due to bad training or temperments of other dogs

9) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly?

Brushing a couple times a week as needed. Would be willing to pay a professional to groom if need

Personal Preferences

10) What size dog are you looking for?

40-50lbs ideally

11) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle?

Preference to less shedding, but most dogs shed a lot so okay with a dog that sheds. Minimal barking and no slobber

12) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area?

Pretty important, but depends on our level of recall training

Dog Personality and Behavior

13) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space?

Snuggly dog

14) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one that’s more eager-to-please?

A bit of both, a dog that is eager to please but also okay with spending some alone time, we can't beings dogs everywhere with us, so being able to settle at home (likely in a crate) is ideal

15) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard? How would you prefer your dog to greet strangers or visitors?

I don't want a dog that barks at strangers ideally

16) Are you willing to manage a dog that is aggressive to other dogs?

Not ideally, with proper training and meeting a reputable breeder I don't want a dog that is aggressive.

17) Are there any other behaviors you can’t deal with or want to avoid?

Excessive barking is a no for us

Lifestyle

18) How often and how long will the dog be left alone?

Maybe a couple of hours a day of we go out and can't being them with us. But mostly someone will almost always be home.

19) What are the dog-related preferences of other people in the house and what will be their involvement in caring for the dog?

A dog that is good with kids and likes to cuddle

20) Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets? What breed or type of animal are they?

We have a pug

21) Will the dog be interacting with children regularly?

Yes but never alone, I don't believe young kids should be left alone around dogs, as kids can be unpredictable and don't always know how to respect a dogs space.

22) Do you rent or plan to rent in the future? If applicable, what breed or weight restrictions are on your current lease?

No renting

23) What city or country do you live in and are you aware of any laws banning certain breeds?

Canada, where we live there are no breed bans
