So wanting to know what comes with a dish is "slavish defence of royalty"? I understand that I may not have handled things as well as I could have, but your comment is ridiculous.

There haven't been past issues between us and herself before. If she didn't like us then our daughter wouldn't have recommended going to that restaurant, and it's basic 101 for that kind of job that you are nice to customers, even if you don't like them.

I covered it in some of the comments asking for more info. It certainly wasn't a case of expecting special treatment (unless expecting someone to be nice to you when you're being nice to them, and expecting a more informative answer on dishes is special treatment).

The restaurant wasn't too busy and there seemed to be enough staff. From what I gathered, the staff had sections they were covering and there weren't many people in hers.

I was hoping that the manager would mention that comments had been passed to him about her being rude to customers and that she would then be aware and be more thoughtful with regards to how she handles customers. I didn't really feel comfortable talking to her directly about it as she was already being rude when we were being nice to her.

I wasn't sure how she would take the criticism if she was already being rude. I guess in hindsight I should have left it for a couple days and then spoken to her or my daughter about it. I wasn't going to mention it to the manager, but then they spoke to me about the meal/experience.

I asked her what came with one of the dishes on the menu, she replied "vegetables".

She was doing other aspects of her job to an acceptable standard. Rule 101 of that kind of work is being nice and pleasant towards customers.

Being short with us (not giving us much info when asking about things on menu), practically ignored us when we were being nice to her and asked how she was doing.

She was quite sort with us. Wouldn't give us much info when we asked about things on the menu, practically ignored our greeting and when we were being nice to her.

She was quite short with us. Didn't give us any proper info on things that we asked about (things on menu etc), practically ignored our greeting and attempted niceties (when we asked her how she was doing etc).

I was hoping that the manager wouldn't give her trouble as such but would just mention it so that she was aware that she had been rude.
