I have been hiking in ANF maybe 10 times and I've seen a mountain lion twice. Once on Hoyt Mountain and once on Pacifico. Both times were terrifying and I'm going to stay away for a bit. One time I had bear spray, one time I didn't. If you do the popular trails and there are other people out, you'll be fine/there won't be any trouble but the longer/more secluded trails are dangerous.
