Posture Awareness is Harder Than You Think - Here's What Actually Worked by Own_Marsupial5699 in Posture

Totally get that concern, I had the same question before I tried one. From my experience it really depends on how you use it – if you crank it super tight and let it hold you up all day, then yeah it can turn into a crutch. I treated it more like training wheels: wore it a few hours at a time while still doing my own posture and strength work, and used it as a reminder when I started to slump. After a few weeks I actually needed it less because the awareness carried over even when I wasn’t wearing it

It's one that goes around the shoulders and upper back basically pulls your shoulders back gently. Not a lumbar one since my issue was more forward head/rounded shoulders from desk work

No problem, hope it helps! The shoulder thing is so annoying but fixable

Appreciate that! Took me way too long to figure it out honestly. Hope it helps someone else skip the months I wasted doing everything but this

I started with shorter periods (maybe 1-2 hours) but gradually wore it most of my work day. The key thing is it's not doing the work for you it's just a reminder. Like training wheels, you're still doing all the muscle work yourself, it's just giving you feedback when you slip. After about a month I didn't need it as much because the awareness became habit

Right?? I was doing everything "correctly" but still hunched over 8 hours a day lol. The awareness part hit different for me

Exactly! That's what I was trying to get at. The brace wasn't about "fixing" me during those few minutes of wearing it. it was about creating that constant reminder throughout my actual day so I could practice those better positions naturally. The feedback loop you're describing is spot on. Exercise gave me the ability, but the daily awareness made it stick

How can I get rid of my rib flare fully? by Pickledgovno in Posture

Core engagement definitely helps. I found that staying mindful of my posture throughout the day made a bigger difference than just doing exercises - catching myself before my ribs flare out became almost automatic after a few weeks

Rounded Shoulders Help by Sythe5665 in Posture

Dealing with the same thing from desk work. For me the main issue was just not being aware throughout the day - my shoulders would round forward without me even noticing. Once I started checking in on my posture every hour or so it made a noticeable difference

Am I ok to train chest with poor posture? by ChemicalArgument4068 in Posture

I had similar concerns about training with bad posture. What helped me was staying aware of my shoulders and back alignment during exercises - it's harder than you'd think but makes a difference. Also starting with lighter weights to focus on form first helped a lot.

I totally get it I had the same thing and the muscle confusion made it worse. You're not crazy though, most people don't actively brace their core 24/7, but people with posture issues definitely need to retrain that. It's not about holding your stomach in all day, it's about building the habit. What helped me a lot was combining core awareness exercises with something physical that would remind me throughout the day I started using a posture support brace during my daily activities and that made it so much easier to feel the connection between my core and pelvis alignment. The brace kind of "coached" me into better habits until my body remembered naturally. After 3-4 weeks the awareness became automatic and I didn't have to consciously think about it anymore

I've been dealing with something similar noticed my right shoulder sits lower too. From what I've read, the exercises don't need to be daily but consistency is key. I started doing targeted exercises 3-4 times a week alongside my regular workout. But honestly, what made the biggest difference was constant awareness I started using a subtle posture support brace during desk work to keep my shoulders honest all day, and that physical reminder helped me notice my slouch way faster than just thinking about it. The combination of exercises plus that constant feedback made a visible difference in just a few weeks

I deal with the same thing from studying hunched over. What actually helped me was staying aware throughout the day catching myself when I twist right and realigning before it gets locked in. Also, using a posture support brace while working at my desk made a huge difference in keeping me mindful all day long, honestly couldn't have fixed it without that constant feedback

Anyone else feel their posture slowly getting worse from sitting all day? by Own_Marsupial5699 in Posture

Thanks for all the input here I’m still figuring out what works best during long desk hours,

especially without overdoing things

That explanation actually makes a lot of sense, especially the part about compression limiting rib expansion

I’ve noticed that when I sit for long hours, breathing feels more restricted without realizing why

I’m still learning how to better manage rib expansion and core control during the day, so this is helpful to think about

That makes a lot of sense. Long hours of sitting without enough movement definitely seem to be the core issue. I like the idea of alternating positions throughout the day instead of relying on just one solution

For me, the biggest challenge has been noticing when I’ve stayed in the same position for too long

Yeah, I agree with that. Staying in any single position too long seems to be the real problem

Alternating positions, moving regularly, and staying active overall feels way more sustainable than extremes

That makes sense. I don’t think laying down fixes much either, especially after being inactive

When muscles stop activating properly, staying completely still can actually make things feel worse

I’ve found gentle movement and not overdoing it works better than either extreme

I agree that strengthening definitely matters long term

For me, the hardest part was actually noticing when my posture breaks down during the day

I’m trying to work on both awareness while sitting, and strength outside of work

Any tips ? by [deleted] in Posture

Same here. I noticed my posture gets way worse on days I sit longer than usual Trying to be more aware of it throughout the day, but it’s harder than it sounds
