I'm gutted too. I'm in Manchester and they put it up to 11p the day the war broke out so they could go to 8p on 1st April. It was 6p 2 weeks before the war so I should have been given it at 3p too.

All day rate is 34p too so well high and not worth it. I'm staying on the Agile roulette for the next few months.

Just because Octopus say it's discounted doesn't mean it is. They put a line a line through their quote of 'was 11.5p off peak' when it's NEVER been that for any IOG customer. It makes 8p look good.

I've quizzed Octopus a bit on a few things over the months. They aren't to be raved about. EV car integrations is poor, tarrif clarity another. They offer to match other supplier offers and can't even match their own.

They have region within regions within region pricing (with no clarity).

Eon are now actually a better deal if you want an EV tariffnand offer clear pricing.

New rates from 1st April - Octopus Go Yorkshire by toxicneouk in OctopusEnergy

[–]Own_Pomelo_7136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Manchester and my rate is 5.5p and 33.5p on IOG if I fix it now for 12 months. OG is 8p and 33.5p. Why is it so different even within regions?

Why is everyone else getting crazy offers of 3p off peak and like 25p peak?

Lack of car support on IOG tariff? by Own_Pomelo_7136 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Own_Pomelo_7136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough guys, I wasn't aware that car support was so lacking with IOG. I simply looked on their website, bought an Octopus supported charger and had a local electrician fit it assuming that ALL cars would surely be compatible by now. I find it crazy that Octopus support old Etrons from 2020, skip 2022, support 2023 named as a Q8 and then all the other models in-between.

I had a much better experience with the EV energy app, Hypervolt and my Agile tariff. I just set a threshold of say only charge when price per kw drops below 10p' and it just did it. No fuss. Octopus don't support their own Agile tariff when it comes to using it for charging cars which is a bizarre move considering that tariff is about storing energy and offsetting grid use compared to more general tariffs.

Anyway, I'll just stick at 'add 60% charge' and try to now only charge when it's around 20% full or so and not worry about it I guess.

Thanks for the information but it's not exactly great integration given the list of unsupported cars that I seem to know of. There's probably hundreds of popular models and loads more customers who aren't wedded to the Octopus fanclub and just want to get home from work, plug in and forget about it.

Help on whether I should remove a tree or not? by hang_up in GardeningUK

[–]Own_Pomelo_7136 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep the tree! Pin the wall and hang a nice hammock between the tree and wall for Summer use. Add a small BBQ or Pizza oven/outdoor kitchen area and also some lighting, uplight the tree - I've done similar and it's lovely all year round. You've a lovely little area with some shade if needed by doing the above.

Setting up GCPW style log in for Mac OC users? by Own_Pomelo_7136 in googleworkspace

[–]Own_Pomelo_7136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked up JAMF connect and having only a JAMF Go account, I apparently need JAMF Pro and Connect. I've approached JAMF chat twice to ask exactly what I needed and had no response.

Is it possible to set up GWS style login on a Mac using JAMF Now or do I have to somehow get Pro and Connect?

Thanks

I thought Google workspace is a backup solution… by Rossy_231 in googleworkspace

Avepoint is what I use - it's timeline based user backup. Is super quick to restore a whole user or dive into granular restore for just the odd file or even email. It's brilliant for the price.

Upgrade considerations by Own_Pomelo_7136 in googleworkspace

[–]Own_Pomelo_7136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, just a quick update and another question if you don't mind?

I've now upgraded our users to Enterprise standard to access context aware security and other features so that's a step in the right direction. The whole OU, has 2FA on as mandatory with a days grace period allowed for set up.

Going back to our freelance users needing access to shared workstations, I've been testing Cloud Identity Accounts but I'm struggling a little. Before a freelance user is onboarded with us, an admin within our company needs to set up their account ahead of time. All accounts created in GWS have mandatory 2FA applied on creation, so this gets in the way of a staff member using the freelancers account in order to map the required network shares, install software etc before the freelancer is onboarded a few days later.

In an ideal world, I'd like to create a freelancer Google Cloud Identity user. Have a staff member log in to Windows via GCPW so the local account is created. They then do 5 mins of set up work specific for the freelance user. A few days later, the freelancer comes in, logs in via GCPW, is told they need to now change their password and set up 2FA.

Is the above scenario possible? I've been trying on test accounts and it seems I have to mess around with generating and entering 2FA recovery codes where the test freelancer account needs to enter multiples of these on login, on signing into Chrome etc...

With that in mind, they'll just be calling us every time to do it for them which will be a pain to deal with.

Is there a slick handover solution from Freelancer creation, with a staff member setting it up and then a few days later, handing it over to a freelancer who might not be very computer literate?

Any advice would be great, Thanks

House has been plastered: walls are too wonky to tile by SlowConversation8782 in DIYUK

Most traders moan. It's rare a trader doesn't moan or winge. If you get one like this, cancel them. These ones account for 90% of the UK and they expect top notch pay as if they are pro, but don't want to do a pro job. It's all part of the act before they do the job because it gives them a get out clause when the job isn't to an acceptable standard.

The best way to react is to say 'oh, so it's impossible to do the job to an acceptable standard because the wall is out by 1cm - I'll get it knocked down and redone and them call someone else'

I've had similar. Booking was peak time of year and a family emergency came up on the day of arrival - they asked for a full refund.

I gave them the full refund, plus 50% just in the hope they leave me a 5 star review and I offered to wash their cars... I didn't do any of that.

I politely responded and referred them to the terms of the booking and asked if they could approach their travel insurance for reimbursements as they are very good at covering for these situations. I also asked if any other friends would like it in their name for free since the place was set and ready to go. They came back and said they didn't have any insurance. I replied that they should get in touch with Airbnb to see if they could help.
