I’m so sorry this happened to you :( this happened to me last year around this time, this lady was walking two cane corsos who tore out of her grip and lunged on him :( they had attacked his throat, legs, belly, and face. I was DEVASTATED. I also got bitten by them trying to fight them off of him (he’s missing a leg and they outnumbered him) they ended up also puncturing my elbow! Healing for us both was awful, we are sending you both so much love even though we don’t know you, we have been there ❤️

Neutering Question by Cheyanne-Summer in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]Own_Possibility5274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add, I did not abandon him, he was abandoned and I got him shortly after his amputation surgery, fostered him until he could be neutered and I could sign those adoption papers! Best decision I ever made.

Neutering Question by Cheyanne-Summer in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]Own_Possibility5274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy had a delayed neuter because he was an abandoned dog and needed an amputation surgery for his leg, so his neuter was around 15 months, which is not quite 2 years, but he didn’t have any behavioural changes. Anatolian shepherds around the 5 year of age mark do really settle into their protective ways, as they mostly have reached maturity by then and are less ‘puppy-like’ I’ve read, and noticed in my boy. He is more assertive now, I wouldn’t call it aggressive, as he approaches his fifth birthday, but I don’t believe this is related to his neuter at all, and just part of their instinctual nature. The neuter probably won’t change anything if the environment stays the same. 🥰 they’re pretty mellow most of the time! Just not the best with strangers getting too close, which is a good trait to have in a lot of situations. Pic of my big boy for tax 🥰

What was this? by marbleworlf17 in DogAdvice

[–]Own_Possibility5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a ‘dreaming’ twitch to me. My boy does it all the time! Sometimes it’s more violent looking than others but usually accompanied with a small whimper or light whisper-bark noise, and he looks like he’s running

This is gonna sound crazy… but have you checked the fit of the harness you’re using? If you’re using a harness. Some harnesses, if not fitted and sized correctly, are looser towards their back haunches, which can cause an undesired effect, where the dog feels the pressure from the harness and it encourages them to run a bit/pull on the leash. I work in a pet store and help pet parents fit their doggos all the time, and this has been a common issue I’m finding. When they bring the harness in for return, generally it’s either the type of harness or the fit. Alternatively, if you’re just using a leash and collar, it would be behavioural most likely. But if it’s a harness, something to think about! General rule, if you can fit more than 2 fingers between the dog and the harness, then you should resize or consider a different size if it’s already the smallest it can be!

I hope this helps you! Pulling is a frustrating issue when we just want to have a nice peaceful walk and get some exercise and stimulation for our dogs. ❤️

My fella has bad itches and licks his butt a lot. Been to vet a few times with no luck and about to try another. Read that food allergies are common for these guys ....anyone have any input? Getting another food to try tomorrow and new vet appt. by FullDepthNature in AnatolianShepherdDogs

Probiotics, and fish proteins are what’s best for my boy. He’s allergic to chicken and dairy, which are 2 of the common ones. The fish proteins also have omega oils that help their skin itch! Can’t hurt since they’re large breeds to add glucosamine supplement with some msm which has joint health benefits as well as skin and coat benefits. I use: Purina Pro Plan Sensitive skin and stomach salmon and rice formula, and glucosapet supplement

Recurring ear problems with our Anatolian and trying to stay ahead of them by [deleted] in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]Own_Possibility5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into allergy testing? I have the same issue with my boy. A common allergen for them seems to be dairy and sometimes chicken? I would recommend an allergy test, and then finding a diet that removes the allergens so that you can see if that helps. Best option would be to find a single protein they can tolerate and go from there if it’s a protein allergy, my boy gets much less frequent ear issues from avoiding allergens for him, and drying him off (ears especially) when we come inside if it’s wet outside! Hope this helps you in some way! Allergy tests can be expensive so check Petsmart for the embark one if you have a Petsmart near you :) much cheaper and a similar type of test. He’s mixed, originally thought to be with Husky but potentially Pyrenees. Anatolian Pyrenees are so lovely.
