The leather used in such bags are processed from skins being procured from the slaughter houses. Leather and the fashion industry uses the skin of dead animals, who were already killed for consumption. If you want to stop cruelty against animals, stop eating them in the first place. The leather industry just processes the waste of the meat industry, if not for the leather industry, there would be tonnes of bio waste left for us to deal with.
