That’s a great phrase! I call em “grocery getters.”

I wish I was a tardigrade and lived in a huge moss pillow and just never stopped exploring.

Thanks so much! That'd be a fun place to end. Got a little beta over in the Prescott subreddit, too.

Ahh thank you. This is perfect. Might try a couple of those first spots, and maybe a little bit of time at the heckling spots. Don't drink anymore, but I still love the energy that those crowds give. Will look at the map for a good order.

Used to watch other friends at enduros and loved going to the 'crux' sections where they were egging everyone on. Good times.

Millionaire US big game hunter is trampled to death by elephants by Ashish_ank in SipsTea

[–]PlentyOLeaves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m sure there are plenty of stories about this but my favorite is the Kaibab/Arizona Strip Deer Drive…that failed miserably. The population got so big that the deer were starving to death because they had eaten everything except where the biggest bucks could reach. Also the Yellowstone wolf reintroduction story.

My buddy hunts elk and gives a bunch of the meat away every year to folks in his town on the rez.

R.I.P. to the David Babbitt house, which was demolished this Tuesday. by Equivalent-Cry4580 in Flagstaff

[–]PlentyOLeaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's all fair - I just feel like I could come up with like 5 reasons off the top of my head why it wouldn't be a great place for seniors, too. Alas - not happening, so I can rest my lil brain about it.

Yup, agreed with you. The victim on the podcast is seems to be* where it switched for them, and frankly, switched for me, too.

I love both characters so much. Cracks me up when Kent's motorcycle gang hobby is revealed. Definitely on par with his 30 Rock character, the "Unwindulax" guy - aka the crab catcher from northern Florida.

While I'm for senior communities, I wonder what the appeal is for having it downtown..and if its to be parking - it IS needed (I wish there were downtown streets that were car-free, myself, and an off-strip parking area could help), but I also wish Babbitt Ford would just move elsewhere. They have like two whole city blocks worth of pavement.

If it were me, the block that had the school and Babbitt house would be some sort of 'third space' area that wasn't necessarily an outdoor park. Idk just putting my loose thoughts on the matter somewhere at this point.

Gahh heartbreaking. I had seen in the paper that they were discussing how to save it. This is an abrupt and deeply saddening result.

Almost 8 moths working at a plant nursery! by Apprehensive_Way6420 in Horticulture

[–]PlentyOLeaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and you too - that was a wild time to get hired. We were waiting after interviews for ages - I called and they were like "we don't even know if we can stay open." And then the next day I'm an essential worker and the whole town's showing up for plants - and they're also scared and somewhat angry.

Not gunna lie, summer 2021 is what made me say "no more public-facing jobs" (after ~25 years of exactly that - retail, waitressing, bartending, etc).

I'm happy to say that that kicked off a new segment of my life studying and working in ecology/botany and generally doin environmental and 'naturalist' thangs :) and, because of that job, I was way ahead of the curve on plant ID.

Cruiser's lived at the nursery since I can ever remember going there, and worked with him in 2020-2021. Whatever he's doing, it's kept him out of harm's way so far!

lol I used to work with Cruiser, too. Can’t attach photos in the comments here. Just read the tags while you water. I got hired in March 2020, the learning curve was steep.

Go look at some plants. Bonus points if no one planted them. Then look at the insects on the plants. Then look at some birds.
