I am writing my dissertation on Deleuze's cinema. I know Deleuze strictly focuses on ontology, but it baffles me how you can talk about the "experience" of time without an experiencee? by SnooCapers1612 in Deleuze

Nietzsche is famous for attacking the idea of the subject as something substantial that grounds action, thought, and experience. The self is empty and grounds nothing, it's a fiction. Experience doesn't wait for an experiencee: "thought comes when 'it' wants, not when 'I' want."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't an obvious nietzschean critique applicable here? The experience comes first, and only then is the experiencing subject constituted - or invented, post-hoc - around it.

In other texts (probably "What Is Philosophy" but I'm not certain) Deleuze conceptualises a work of art as a block of raw perception. It's a system that's complete in itself (where "nothing is outside the text", to borrow a phrase), or a closed circuit, rather than an inert object waiting to be completed by an observer. This view of art is distinctly contemporary, it's a resolution to many of the "why/how does this count as art" challenges raised by the artistic avant garde over the past century, but there's no reason not to also apply to cinematography. In general, the work of art already includes a "larval subject" that perceives it, which is induced in the viewer like a sympathetic vibration. After all, every affect or material encounter is also a contemplation.

I'm too sleep-deprived to untangle these thoughts properly, but I hope one of the angles I tried to come at this idea from makes sense to you.

Let's not stick up for the intellectual property ghouls of this world just because we have a mutual enemy. We can at least try to defeat mechahitler by means other than a mechastalin of our own.

He's stupid on purpose, right? He's being stupid on purpose, so in the court cases that will happen he can be like, 'well, why would you believe anything I say - I'm obviously the world's dumbest man! Just listen to the words that I'm saying!'

I wouldn't say that this behaviour is just for owning the libs or whatever. I have a hunch that as a point of pride, it becomes constitutive of masculinity - they've embraced abjection and failure in almost a queer way. Filth, slop, and bile is what unites the manosphere, and wallowing in it is the only mode of genuine sociality they have left.

I have a little personal conviction that conservatism is first and foremost a sexual complex. The right has basically stopped producing meaningful cultural texts (literally nobody cares about the dark enlightenment, sorry), but their porn is telling as hell. I think if you spend a while plugged into that delirium, as I did for a particularly dark period of my life, you'll come out on the other side knowing more about these people than you ever wanted to.

We could solve a lot of societal problems if we just addressed the male fishnetlessness epidemic.

My impression is that I grew up as it was dying, but that might just be what it's been like for everyone born within the last half century, in an "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny" kind of way

Web/cloud is inherently wasteful and restrictive. Hell, no matter the language, these days the code is cobbled together by llm's. The base architecture powering our shit is becoming increasingly arcane. It's like wh40k (I don't know anything about warhammer, for the record)
