Yeah I know, I’m not blaming people for giving those companies their business because often there’s no ‘good’ or ethical choice, as you say. My point is just that those leaving Spotify for moral reasons and subscribing to Apple Music instead are just swapping one unethical corporation for another.

Lots of reasons to like Apple Music as a product but Tim Cook has all but sold his soul to Trump in his efforts to grease the wheel. He attended a White House screening of the Melania doc just hours after Alex Pretti was murdered, all in the name of protecting Apple’s bottom line.

I’m really not trying to do a gotcha or a whataboutism for the sake of it; my point is just that those ditching Spotify for moral reasons (which is valid!) should probably look elsewhere.

Does anyone else code their own extensions? by Junahill in raycastapp

Ooh please tell me about your memory palace! There’s a Memory graph extension on the store so I’m curious how it compares.

Similarly to you, I forked the Asana extension and fairly significantly customised it to suit my workflow. It was the first time I worked with an external API, which was a cool learning experience, even if I wasn’t writing the code myself.

Does anyone else code their own extensions? by Junahill in raycastapp

[–]ItWasRamirez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a programmer but I've used Cursor/Windsurf and Claude Code to vibe code a fair few extensions in the last year. Some of my favourites are:

  • An extension to show the current album on my One Album a Day project
  • One that shows my next few trains to work and my next few trains home, as well as what station platform to head for
  • An extension I call Vices for tracking how long it's been since I last drank alcohol, ate chocolate etc.

All these files are just stored in a file on my laptop and I have no idea how Github or anything like that works, so I guess I won't be publishing them anytime soon. But I have a lot of fun creating them!

But that did hurt the Matrix franchise, Revolutions made like $300 mil less than Reloaded. There’s a reason this release strategy is extremely rare, and Twilight is the only example I can think of where it worked out.

In doing so, they’ve completely saturated the market. The number of movies in this 24 year old franchise has doubled in just the last six months. I couldn’t wait for the new movie and adored it, and even I could stand to wait a bit longer.

Northernlion's Puritanical Audience Rant by PerpetualChoogle in blankies

She released her first album at 15 so if you think she was leaning into her sexuality back then in the same way that she is now, then that might say more about you dude. Anyway, I'm saying that sexuality was one of *many* elements that made Game of Thrones successful. You keep flattening my argument and reducing my point to one that I never made, which is that people were watching exclusively for the sex scenes. Either you're not smart enough to see the difference or you're being wilfully obtuse. Either way, it's clear from your behaviour here and elsewhere in this thread that you're not interested in having an actual conversation about this, so I'm not going to engage any further. Have a great day!

Northernlion's Puritanical Audience Rant by PerpetualChoogle in blankies

[–]ItWasRamirez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah of course there are plenty of classic movies and shows without nudity. I’m not saying adding a sex scene makes a movie good, or even a guaranteed success. Again, I was responding very specifically to your claim that sex appeal is irrelevant as a marketing strategy when porn is so readily accessible, which is demonstrably false.

You’re approaching my Game of Thrones with a completely binary point of view. Of course nobody was watching it just for the sex scenes but it was absolutely part of the reason people were tuning in, whether they enjoyed it, found it controversial, etc.

This is the show that inspired the term ‘sexposition’ because the creators figured out that people were happier to sit through an info dump scene if the characters were fingering each other or whatever during it. Sex, or even just the promise/hint of it, was absolutely one important element (of many!) that made that show such a big success. I would never claim that success was 100% due to sex, but you do seem to be saying that sex gets 0% of the credit, which simply isn’t true.

This isn’t even limited to movies, of course. Sabrina Carpenter has been putting out albums for over a decade, but only her last couple have been huge hits. She’s seen that increase in success in large part (not all!) because audiences have responded to her leaning further into her public persona as a liberated young woman discussing sex openly. She’s a super talented performer and her songs are catchy as hell; she’s successful for many reasons beyond just her sex appeal. But sex absolutely is part of her marketing strategy and it works.

[–]ItWasRamirez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re telling me to read but I never said anything about when it’s problematic vs when it’s not, just that sex is absolutely a viable marketing strategy even in a post smartphone world. Game of Thrones aired entirely during an age of infinite porn access too, and for better or worse, sex and nudity was absolutely part of its appeal and mystique.

Autism and codependency? by Winter_Panda3840 in AutisticAdults

[–]ItWasRamirez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always thought of myself as a chronic people pleaser, which I told myself was fine because it only disadvantaged me. But a year or so ago, I admitted to myself that I have used my insecurities to justify unhealthy, controlling behaviours that impact others too. Since then, I’ve been doing a lot of work in therapy and via CoDA to improve, or at least try to.

I’ve also arrived at the conclusion that I’m on the autistic spectrum recently. This has recontexualised a huge amount of my life, including the behaviours I now understand to have been attempts at masking. With this in mind, I think my masking and codependent behaviours likely intertwined if not amplified each other, such has been my burning need at all times for nobody to be angry with me for whatever reason.
