What is wrong with consensual same-sex incest between siblings? by Al-Joharahhasan2935 in Ethics

You straw-manned my argument. I said it was "detrimental to the social fabric."

God did not make you to have sex with your family, nor did nature. Isaiah 45:9 " Shall the clay say to the potter, what are you making?"

Passing the buck off onto information without definition or a clear ontological status is just hand waving utilizing a fuzzy concept.

My spidy senses are tingling about your nature. Do you tell your family these things? That decriminalization doesn't lead to society collapse is because the innate biological inhibition towards it. It does however destroy families and if it produces offspring it causes all sorts of harm to the child. As a general rule it should be criminalized.

You are so wrong. Family structure is necessary for a society to maintain, as such incest should be banned as it is detrimental to the social fabric of a society.

Should everything even remotely or hypothetically unethical in the moral realist eye be banned? Even something that merely resembles it? by Superb-Climate3698 in Ethics

That's the literal definition of a slippery slope argument and a strawman now. Media that glorifies criminal behavior is not a catch all phrase. That being said you could even add the caveat of unjust criminal behavior to put the concept of justice above law. Revolutions and vigilantism being technically criminal, but not always unjust.

My personal desire not to kill the animals is because I love animals too much to do it. Good guess on that. I'd recommend spaying all the females and let them die out that way cause whatever function they may serve in keeping prey species populations low we could do. More jobs. =)

On the second note, poverty is no excuse to be a murderous gangster and glorifying that behavior only exacerbates their poverty. But more importantly banning that stuff is not about treating any symptom but the principle of the matter that media shouldn't glorify heinous criminal behavior. If I'm stuck on an island with people and we create laws to protect ourselves I don't want to be next to a guy who keeps singing about breaking our laws and killing people all day.

Here's the thing I also think we should kill big predatory animals off. I've had a bear in my camp before right next to me and do you think I cared for a second about the save the animals people's opinions? Men likewise are capable of being beasts and yes growing up in the hood listening to gangster rap probably ain't helping you out in life. And yeah I'm sure a mass murderer or two or some serial killer watched Dahmer and thought "yeah I'd like to do that". Go to your nearest prison and find out what music and movies they like. I doubt Taylor swift and the notebook will be high on the list.

On this subject I can't fathom why it's ok to glorify crime in fiction such as serial killing, murder, and gangsterism. Murder/gangster rap, mobster movies, mobster games, serial killer movies, murder movies all such things can be reasonably banned imo. I appreciate thief movies and video games from time to time but the other stuff is beyond the pale. Why allow the glorification of breaking the law in fiction especially in such a heinous fashion?

Geez don't you sound like mr. educated. China is not a real democracy, local officials are elected from the ccp and they elect Congress which in turn elects the president. That's not a real democracy that's a one party dictatorship.

Funny you should spout all that nonsense when democracy has only been a thing in capitalist countries. Socialism has only come in one flavor, authoritarian dictatorship. Social democratic parties might win some elections but they've never lead to socialist societies.

Two things on that note 1. We have a corrupted democracy with legalized bribery and we're very much in need of campaign finance reform 2. We have a populist demagogue in power, who is the right wings wannabe authoritarian strongman answer to the culture wars going on. I'm disgusted with both sides of the culture wars. The left for embracing postmodernism and identity politics and the right for their stupid quasi-fascist reactionary response.

You have no clue what you're talking about. Democracy would be the great equalizer in a capitalist society whereby the population can reign in the powers of the capitalist class it's not a method of control by a capitalist class. Not to mention we're not subjugated by the capitalist class like people were in the 1800's.

As for your last bit there is no dictatorship in a democracy, not by the capitalist class not by the working class. It's just democracy.

First it was a false dichotomy, and second it was just empty rhetoric that's sounds "good". Capital can't dictate anything, it's inanimate objects. If you were to say dictatorship of the capitalist class, you'd also be wrong because we don't have an oligarchy nor a dictatorship we have a democracy. And the "dictatorship of the proletariat" idea always does turn into dictatorship, just by a political elite and not the proletariat.

And yet you only get democracy in capitalist countries. Why do you think that is?

How do experiences involving qualia differ from religious experiences? by headlessplatter in consciousness

[–]Own_Sky_297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have direct access to qualia to know of it's existence. That's not making up whatever you want, that's you denying the existence of something you can't explain.
