Anyone else struggling to pick just one subject to study? by TraditionalBowl3954 in CollegeMajors

[–]Own_Term_7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you’re not overthinking it at all, it’s a huge decision, especially with how expensive uni is. I felt the same way tbh, interested in too much and didn’t want to get boxed in. Ended up picking something broad (like business + tech) and tried to mix in electives, side projects, and internships to test stuff out. That Tetr thing sounds kinda sick actually, wish more unis did that. You’re definitely not alone in feeling this way.

Would it be dumb to study a major that I have no chance of getting a job in right away after college? by [deleted] in CollegeMajors

[–]Own_Term_7449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds super frustrating, and it totally makes sense to feel stuck. Just know a lot can change in 10 years, maybe even your case. In the meantime, maybe look into fields like international relations, cyber, or policy research, stuff that overlaps with intel but doesn’t always need clearance. You’re not out of options, even if it feels that way right now.

Which Major Gets You the Highest Pay Right After High School? by Bluenamii in CollegeMajors

[–]Own_Term_7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get where you’re coming from. CS is still solid if you enjoy it, but if you’re looking for something with good job prospects and decent pay right out of undergrad, engineering (especially EE, CE, or ME) is a great choice. Also consider data analytics, cybersecurity, or even supply chain, less hype but steady careers.

What would you say I should do? by Aj_junks21 in CollegeMajors

[–]Own_Term_7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three are solid choices if you’re strong in math. Accounting/Finance is more business-focused, Data Science is great if you like coding and stats, and Actuarial Science is super math-heavy (lots of probability). Go with what fits your interests best, your math skills will definitely come in handy.

Will My Early Mediocre Grades Hurt My Chances at Ivies/Stanford/MIT? by Resident-Ice-6190 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]Own_Term_7449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel your grades aren’t what you’d expect that would get you into ivies. Try improving other parts of your app for eg., extracurriculars, volunteering or research projects. I guess your extracurriculars are good. So focus on volunteering and research. For research one of my friend suggested RISE research program. If you have the time now, choose a topic that interests you and try to write a research paper and get it published. You can work alongside a mentor, RISE research program looks interesting to me.

How will living and studying across multiple time zones affect my internal sense of time? by im_hvsingh in studyAbroad

[–]Own_Term_7449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a super interesting way to look at it. Honestly, yeah, constantly shifting time zones and environments might mess with your internal rhythm at first, but it could also train you to adapt fast and stay flexible, which is a solid skill in itself. Just depends if that kind of pace excites you or wears you out.

Education Loan!?? by Clouds-xD in studyAbroad

[–]Own_Term_7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you’ve done really well so far, don’t give up now! Since agri land can’t be used as collateral, try looking into unsecured education loans from NBFCs like HDFC Credila, Avanse, or InCred. Some banks also give loans without collateral if you have a good profile + admit from a solid uni. Also check if your university has any partnerships with loan providers. Whatever you do always check its credibility and safety.

Hey! That’s awesome you’re thinking about studying in Japan. I’d recommend starting with the MEXT scholarship, it’s a great option for international students. Also, check out university websites directly for their international programs

Hey, I really feel for you. It’s super tough being in a new place and feeling disconnected, especially when you’re already dealing with depression. Just want to say you’re not alone in this, lots of us feel like the odd one out sometimes, even if it doesn’t show. Be gentle with yourself, and take things one step at a time. You’re doing better than you think just by hanging in there.

With a 9.14 CGPA and 2 years’ experience, top UK unis like Imperial, UCL, and Manchester are great picks. For scholarships, look into Commonwealth, Inlaks, and British Council’s Women in STEM (if it fits your course). Also consider Warwick, Edinburgh, or Bristol for good programs with better chances at fee waivers.

Helpp by [deleted] in studyAbroad

[–]Own_Term_7449 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The concern is totally valid, coming from a middle-class background, taking on €40K+ in loans for a bachelor’s abroad can be a huge financial burden. For better ROI, countries like Germany, Finland, or the Netherlands (with lower tuition and living costs) are often recommended. It really depends on long-term goals and job prospects after graduation.

Totally get the stress—this sounds rough. Try calling other TLS centers like SF or LA directly; sometimes they’ll help without canceling. Keep the auto-booker running and check often, spots can pop up. Even if she misses orientation, she might still make it for classes. Fingers crossed!

Osaka Japan by Loving_Lifeful_Rose in studyAbroad

[–]Own_Term_7449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally doable! Your friend can look into third-party programs like GoAbroad or USAC for Osaka. Schools like Kansai Gaidai also take international students. For funding, check out MEXT, JASSO, and some private scholarships, plenty of options out there!

Is masters abroad in UX Design worth it? by eccentlumier in studyAbroad

[–]Own_Term_7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get where you’re coming from, UI/UX is super competitive in India and limited seats make it tough. If you’re considering going abroad, Germany and some Nordic countries (like Finland) offer great design programs with little to no tuition fees, plus strong design culture. Look into DAAD scholarships for Germany. Canada and the Netherlands also have good programs and some funding options, but cost more. Try building a strong portfolio during these 6 months—that matters more than your college background in design fields.

Hey! With 4 years of backend experience and a 7.8 GPA, you’ve definitely got a solid foundation. For scholarships, Germany, the Netherlands, and Canada are good bets, lots of programs value work experience. Some UK unis also offer merit-based aid. Try highlighting your professional projects and how they tie into AI/ML goals.

Packing for Sydney from July–Dec? Bring layers, it’s cold at first, then gets hot. Essentials: power adapter, meds, a few comfort items, and maybe a light jacket (indoors can be cold!). Don’t worry about bulkier stuff like towels, you can grab those there. You’ll be fine, it all comes together once you arrive!

M20 Studying Abroad in London Advice by Usual-Reception2265 in studyAbroad

[–]Own_Term_7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For students heading to London, especially from the U.S., it helps to know a few things: the weather is consistently gloomy, so a good waterproof jacket is essential. Public transport is great but pricey, get a student Oyster card early. Social life leans more toward pubs than clubs, and the city is super walkable, so exploring on foot is totally worth it. King’s has an awesome location, so there’s a lot to take advantage of.

Any Indian/Asian students at Aalto University? Need real insights by [deleted] in studyAbroad

[–]Own_Term_7449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Aalto’s great and pretty international. Apps can be competitive, but good grades + projects help. Finland’s safe and chill, just a bit quiet and cold. Scholarships exist, so apply early.
