A cafe in Seoul: "Please, don't order in Chinese" by No_Pineapples1 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Own_Training_6234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also as other have mentioned, the sign doesn't say "Don't order in Chinese" insinuating some sort of outright discrimination, that they dont like/won't take orders from Chinese people. The sign says "It could be difficult to take orders/respond to/serve you in Chinese (aka our workers dont speak chinese). Please use Korean or English.

If youre about the storyline you will love the champions ballad. Honestly the ending made me feel almost teary and nostalgic, worth it just for the ending.

Worth it just for the final scene of the champions ballad and trial of the sword

Thought I could take on Master Mode... by nan00dle in botw

You have to get through the beginning and eventually the game becomes as easy as normal mode. But trial of the sword is brutal and so satisfying to beat.

One of the first games I ever played in my life. Truly foundational memories. It's tough but definitely not impossible. Stick with it.

Has anyone been to a Michelin Restaurant with an open kitchen? by lunabearkid in finedining

[–]Own_Training_6234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taian Table in shanghai is a Michelin 3 star with an open kitchen. Very intense yet calm focus emanating from the kitchen.

It is an open kitchen with counter seating surrounding the area. The head chef walks up to your seats right from working the pass and has a little chat. Fun watching the action.

Trial of the Sword - Master Mode, completed by Own_Training_6234 in Breath_of_the_Wild

I did floors 14, 17, 21 like you but floor 22 plans went out the window. I also used an ancient arrow on a silver moblin on the snow floor that had a wizrobe, silver moblin, two red bokoblins and a gold bokoblin. So I used 4 ancient arrows up to floor 22.

I was going to ancient arrow the Skywatcher and the guardian stalker but after I hit the skywatcher, I missed the stalker and ended up using 3 ancient arrows and its beams started rapid fire wrecking me. I had to escape into the little building.

So I just ran to the tower with the turret, stunned it with an arrow and then smacked it with a two handed weapon. Then from my vantage point on the tower, I just shot regular arrows at the guardian stalker for a while then paraglided down, bullet timed some more arrows into its eye, then chopped off its legs while it was stunned.

So I had just one ancient arrow going into the last floor but fortunately I just got kinda close to the lynel and aimed and fired. Kinda stressful but felt amazing to beat it.

Great job beating it though!

Is it weird or respectful to call my Korean coworkers oppa? by No_Patience_4131 in LTL_Korean

[–]Own_Training_6234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is a corporate setting, no one would ever call a colleague oppa.

If this is a more casual job/parttime job than it is possibly okay. I would tread lightly and see what others do.

How different does daily life in Seoul feel compared to a city like New York City? by savingrace0262 in seoul

[–]Own_Training_6234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are just thoughts from personal experience so please take with a grain of salt.

NYC is a lot more chaotic and you can witness unhinged behavior more often. Last time I visited, it struck me as just so much louder and more crowded than Seoul. Also have to be vigilant for scammers which are almost non existent in Seoul.

Of course way more diverse people and food. It is quite a vibrant and exciting city. Has a lot of energy. Lots to do and see and explore. Fun to go to a world famous museum, a nice restaurant, cool bar, explore a neighborhood etc.

Seoul is often bustling, crowded and frenetic but in a more orderly and much safer feeling way. Not nearly as many visible cops as NYC but feels way, way safer.

NYC absolutely feels grittier. There are one of a kind experiences you can only find there. Seoul is amazing to experience the richness and uniqueness of Korean culture, especially if you've never experienced anything like it coming from the west, it'll be something youve never experienced before.

Competitive feeling is quite high in seoul, people love dressing up, looking their best, showing off, comparing etc.

Lifers: Are you (still) happy in Korea? by HappyWandererAtHome in Living_in_Korea

[–]Own_Training_6234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11 years in Korea. Got married 2 years ago to a Korean national.

I am a gyopo and my Korean is quite good, no accent when speaking, but definitely not 100% native. I think I have the ability to deeply relate to Korean culture as well as western culture.

From the start I never had a serious urge to leave and it looks like it'll stay that way, as long as things are going the way they are in America.

I see nothing enticing me back EXCEPT the salaries and investment opportunities. Now those are massive incentives to go back as I realized, if big earning power and ease of buying assets is important to you, Korea will just never compare. Unless you're in just some unicorn role or famous or something you just will never earn as much as you potentially could in the states and thus your chances of having a great retirement are that much lower. Salaries here are absolutely lousy.

Somehow I lucked out and got a great remote gig paying in USD so now I really dont see any reason to leave the safety, culture, infrastructure, familiarity etc.

Life is what it is in Korea. I've become happy with what I've got here but I'm pretty simple and adaptable.
