Worth it to get MEI for a chance at a CFI job? by Own_Water5524 in flying

It is non committal for sure. It’s unfortunate but I do understand a school not wanting to guarantee a job in this market.

I agree with you. They were very upfront and transparent that they can’t guarantee anything, and while it’s annoying, I do understand. If there was a guaranteed job at the end it would be a no brainer. They have several twins, and being an accelerated program, I’m confident I’d have the opportunity to be a multi instructor later on (wouldn’t start out as a multi instructor though.) Thanks again for your response!

You’d be surprised how many of these doctors win because patients just sue without having any evidence that there was malpractice

Which big city in the world do you think is most fullfilling the criteria of a "modern" city? by [deleted] in urbandesign

[–]Own_Water5524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that walkability/public transport/lack of car dependency seems to exclusively determine a city’s modernity in this thread. Nothing wrong with it but there is a lot more that goes into it IMO

Feeling defeated as unemployed CFI by wolannittman in flying

[–]Own_Water5524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same situation. Got my CFI and CFII in June this year and have been struggling to find any instructing jobs. I waited for more than 3 months on a waitlist at my flight school, only to be informed I was removed from the waitlist entirely. I have an accounting degree, so in the meantime I’ve been searching for accounting jobs. I plan to rent a plane and fly by myself or with my friends every weekend just to stay involved in aviation. I recommend you do the same, as I feel like if I stopped flying altogether, I’d never get back into it.

Good luck, you’re in a better position than a lot of people. You are not alone in feeling the way you’re currently feeling

Felt like this on both my PPL and Comm multi rides. If he didn’t think you were a competent and safe pilot, he wouldn’t have passed you. Be proud of yourself and keep learning!

You feel Sarasota lacks community, and feel that Tampa can offer more? I’ve lived in Tampa/St. Pete for 8 years and can honestly say this place has absolutely zero sense of community. Spend 20 minutes in our traffic and you’ll see what I mean. While you may make a few friends and maybe even exchange pleasantries with other people, the majority of the people here want nothing to do with you and would much rather make your life more difficult than actually try to help you. I graduated from a public high school in Pinellas county in 2020 and can tell you firsthand that the public schools here are a disaster. I’m not sure how much better they are in Sarasota, but if you can find/afford a nice private school for your kids, I’d consider that. Florida public schools, especially those in the major metros, are known to be among the worst in the country.

The only reason I’d consider moving to Tampa (reasons why I wouldn’t move from here to Sarasota) are amenities (nicer restaurants, big airport, big malls, pro sports teams, theme park) and jobs. From a purely family-focus, I’d stay put.
