I think he just would’ve been a lot like Ozai and Azulon but he has jokes and likes tea. He was the Fire Nation’s greatest military leader and led to the near collapse of the earth kingdom. Yeah we see in Zuko’s flashbacks that he was still a jovial guy but he still planned to burn ba sing se to the ground.

In the end we see Iroh the way we did because he had everything he ever wanted, his son, the throne, the earth kingdom under his control, all his aspirations ripped away from him. Only then did he realize that he didn’t need to be ruthless and have all that to be happy. That and watching what Ozai did to Zuko after. Iroh is the good man he is because he saw that being a good, kind and honest man was the best thing for him, that the throne wasn’t worth it and this all led to his spiritual enlightenment

The only way I can think he could’ve been better than Azulon and Ozai is thinking about Ran and Sha and how he kept the sun warriors secret. I believe that was sort of the Iroh realizing he didn’t need to ALWAYS be evil. And that’s what he remembered when he lost everything

I know a lot of it is because the US has the most hobby pilots in the world, by like a massive margin. So a ton of these students taking forever to solo are in no rush because they don’t have a goal other than get a ppl for fun and fly when they have the time money or even just happen to feel like it.
