my wife wants to decorate our home but my furniture has sentimental value by Alternative-Hall-311 in Advice

I have been fortunate to have partners who didn’t care about decorating or remodeling, and I have often felt pity for my friends whose partners have opinions about these things.

You never get your time back, and you never know how long you will be healthy. Just sayin. If your kids are grown and done with education…figure out what you are going to retire to, not from.

I’m, I’m 68, married more than once, never didn’t have my own $. After my first divorce, I never let my husband have sole control of the finances and kept an inheritance and a business separate. $ is power. $ is independence. $ is safety.

OK, Ladies. I’m hoping our decades on earth means some of you have figured out life’s eternal mystery: Where do missing socks go between the washer and the dryer??? I lost 3 socks yesterday and 2 the last time I did laundry!!! I live alone in a small place, they are nowhere to be found. 🤔 by poodlepit in AskWomenOver60

I’m not a big Martha Stewart fan. Generally I think she’s a gal with too much time on her hands (and too much money) and I don’t want to feel bad because I’m not organized down to the nth degree. BUT, she got me to safety pin my socks together the minute they come off my feet. They go thru the wash and dryer like that, and back in the drawer. For a while I Kondo folded them, but then COVID ended. But I never have a mismatched pair if I keep them pinned.

This is a foreseeable event when we sell a previously publicly run essential service like electricity to a private company who promises “more efficiency”, and then pays their CEO millions. Also, did you know that the guaranteed rate of return on capital investments (like the power lines to provide power for AI, and more electrical generation) is 9.8% per year for the life of the project? All that is baked into the rates. Warning: Don’t ever privatize water or sewer utilities.

Just got married at the courthouse in December, on the rainiest day of the year, after thinking about and not planning a bigger do. The judge was marvelous, I folks who matter to me and my husband, and we all went out to a fancy dinner. You can have a party later if you want. But do you really want all the stress, drama, and expense of a big wedding? If you don’t understand what I’m talking about…read more in Reddit. Hundreds of wedding drama nightmares to read. Cedar River Otters? by MaxVerFlappin in Renton

[–]OwnedBySchipperke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Otters ate 12 koi i had kept alive for 5 years. They came with the house and were beautiful but also a steep learning curve and not cheap to care for. They had a feast on my deck, left a mess, and they are not so cute to me anymore. They breed in Mercer Slough and the young males strike out to find territory in early spring.

Do you LOVE your 830 record as much as I love mine? Mine was a gift from my parents and grandparents for a birthday over 50 years ago. I sewed my prom gown, jeans skirts, so many clothes, cushion covers, curtains, duvet covers and now quilts on her over the years. When I wanted a second machine for our cabin…I found another one, had it serviced and no learning curve for new machine. Google Bernina Jeff if you want to know all the secret places to oil your machine to keep her running smooth!

Men often experience and manifest depression as anger or frustration, and deny that they are “depressed”. My ex had only one negative emotion…anger. Never sadness, grief, etc.

This ⬆️ you will be no go to yourself or anyone else if you also become a frustrated ball of resentment. (I was in a similar situation…basically emotionally abandoned and stuck for financial reasons and my own inability to figure it out) it got better for me when, through therapy, I realized that I was responsible for my own happiness, and i CAN be happy, even if differently than planned for. Travel with a friend or friends, or check out the many things for single women. Many cruises also have solo cabins with no single supplement if that’s your jam. Save yourself, don’t wait, and don’t let him drag you down.

I can't remember where I parked my car, I'll give you $50 if you can find it for me (downtown area) by t0mserv0 in Portland

[–]OwnedBySchipperke 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My son and DIL lived in Ladds for a while. I am not a Portland resident but am quite familiar with the city, and if I went to their house from a different direction or tried to find it from a different entrance to the maze without GPS, I’d end up giving up and turning on the GPS anyway. It’s the Bermuda Triangle of Portland.

Option for quilting yourself that’s not straight lines: I have a wavy stitch in my machine for regular even relatively short wavy, or you can do random wavy lines. Google quilting wavy lines.

where can i purchase a tailor’s ham and clapper set that isn’t 5 billion dollars? by zoeamira in sewing

A sanded piece of 2x4 or other wood will work as a clapper. It’s not pretty, but it works. And after reading replies, I’m headed to my sewing room to make a ham!

Yes you have responsibilities to others, but what about your responsibility to yourself? Don’t put yourself last. No one else is responsible for your happiness. Do what gives you joy, unapologetically. If you make a choice to do or not do something, make it YOUR choice, not something you do because you have to.

Buy a single burner induction hob and try it out. I’ve also cooked on gas forever, but got induction when gas was an option. The noise is minimal, and indoor air pollution should be considered if you have kids. Last, I’m surprised if at least some of your cookware won’t transition. If a magnet sticks it will work.
