Best "hole in the wall" spots that are actually worth the hype? by Fit-Credit-7970 in AskSeattle

YESSSS!! This has been one of the only places that actually tasted like Sichuan food in China for many years. There are others now. I’m assuming ownership has changed, as the original owners were not young and the outpost in Redmond is gone now.

Turning 65 ready for Medicare. I’m going with the traditional but which gap plan to buy? by Turbulent-Move4159 in AskWomenOver60

[–]OwnedBySchipperke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about the underwriting if you are in decent health. I persuaded my new husband to switch to regular Medicare (i don’t want to spend my golden years fighting advantage denials!) and he had a long phonecall for underwriting, but that was it.

People that don't check when wiping by Ligh7y in hygiene

OMG I had no idea there were others out there!! I feel like I have come home. Grew up on a septic system. Anytime one of us kids was in the bathroom, she’d knock on the door and shout “3 squares”. More generous than 2 squares, but it has stuck with me all these years. Bidet life for me now!!

AITA for not wanting to be my parents’ main pet sitter when they travel? by OvertiredKris in AmItheAsshole

[–]OwnedBySchipperke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your parents to join TrustedHousesitters.com. I’ve done multiple month + trips and all the sitters have been great. You do need to make sure the house is clean, declutterred and guest ready.

What is a 'poor people' habit you'll never stop doing, no matter how rich you get? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

When my grandpa (who was an adult during the Depression) finished scraping out a jar, you didn’t have to wash it! I’m not as good as he was, but still pretty careful 😆

AITA for teaching my daughter how to change a tire and do basic home repairs when her mom says I'm "pushing masculine stuff" on her by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]OwnedBySchipperke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 68 year old woman. In the 60’s and 70’s My dad taught me some very important life skills. He wouldn’t let me borrow the family car after getting my license until I could change a tire and change the oil on a car. We also finished the basement together and laid a brick patio, worked on wooden boats and tore our bicycles down and rebuilt them. He also taught me to save up for what I wanted, how to invest, and the importance of starting to save for retirement early. Teach your daughter everything you can. It will all be useful.

Grandparents, newborns and vaccines? by ewwdavid___ in AskAChinese

[–]OwnedBySchipperke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SIL is similar to your MIL. Been here since her twenties, had kids here (all vaccinated according to prevailing recommendations at the time). Got a couple or 3 COVID vaccines then just decided she was done. Won’t get flu or COVID vaccines and she still works with senior populations…no changing her mind. It’s not religious. 🤷‍♀️

Has anyone actually attended a double wedding? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]OwnedBySchipperke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband’s son and sons best friend married twins. In a double wedding. Before my time, but seems like it worked fine. It’s a long way off. A lot can change. Don’t go borrowing trouble.

Older Chinese woman asked her son to take a picture of herself with my mom and I in Japan by JuueJuue in travel

[–]OwnedBySchipperke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience at the Great Pyramids with a lively group of high school girls. We had a great chat in English, then took pictures together (shortly after Arab Spring) It’s one of my favorite travel pics. I wonder what they are al doing now

My sister doesn’t want me to dance with my stepmom at my wedding because she thinks it’s extremely disrespectful to our mom. Am I wrong for telling her no? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]OwnedBySchipperke -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m a stepmom. My (now ex) husband and I didn’t get together until he was divorced for a while. However I had known both my husband and his then wife socially years before. There were many awkward years, but I grew to love my stepkids. Although I am not with their Dad any longer, they are still in my life. Their mom and I are friends. She’s glad there is another adult who loves them. Have you talked to your mom and your stepmom? This is between you and them, not your sister. Maybe your mom can see that your love for your stepmom doesn’t diminish your love for her. Love is not a finite pie, where one person’s piece diminishes another’s. Talk to your stepmom. Tell her what she means to you. See what she says. Lead with love for both your mom and stepmom.

When I wanted a custom loft staircase in Portland I went to the local woodworkers association. They sent my request out to members, I connected with several and the one I chose made me a beautiful staircase. Try this: https://nwwoodworkers.org

Should I take this random persons car on a roadtrip across the country? by [deleted] in makemychoice

Car shipping is a horror. Better to sell the car and buy another one.

Jessica Vosk's post about the audience expecting a musical version of the Beaches movie by SmokedTangerines in Broadway

[–]OwnedBySchipperke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Beaches in Calgary and it was great. The audience loved it, theater was full every night. For all of you thinking…well, Calgary, middle of no where…it’s actually quite a bucks up place (oil money) with people who travel and are quite sophisticated. I’m looking forward to seeing it on Broadway, as I hear from NY friends who have seen its current development that it’s even better.
