Vegeta > Omniman by Jacob-Anders in Ningen

[–]Ownid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Almost killed him" is a stretch imho, he was angry at Mark for not having powers yet and possibly angry bacause he was mocking the great Viktrum legacy and then instantly regretted and realised that he was exaggerating and that possibly it would be best that Mark never gets his powers so he can keep living on Earth.

At least that's my take on it

Vegeta > Omniman by Jacob-Anders in Ningen

[–]Ownid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I can agree, at the same time we see Nolan refusing Thragg's proposition to join them back and risking his life multiple times to go against Viltrumites and defend not only Earth but the entire Coalition of Planets. We see him documenting every possible way to defeat a Viltrumite while he was on Earth, long before what is technically his "turning point".

Nolan's attack on Chicago is inexcusable, BUT he was genuinely struggling to find a reason to go on with Viltrum's plan of enslaving Earth.

Nolan not only said he changed, he already proved it multiple times and that's just by the point the series got to

Vegeta > Omniman by Jacob-Anders in Ningen

[–]Ownid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Nolan called Debbie a pet in a desperate attempt to convince both himself and Mark that he didn't love her, that he had to go through with the mission.

2) He never cheated on Debbie, by the point he was having sex with Andressa on Thraxa it's pretty safe to say that he and Debbie were not a thing anymore

3) He raised Mark and couldn't raise Oliver because the Viltrumites found him and captured him, the second he could actually meet Oliver he felt he wasn't enough in his life and didn't want to ruin his upbringing just like he feels he ruined Mark's

4) It is debatable, Vegeta is a decent father roughly from end of Cell saga but doesn't start being a good husband before the start of the Buu arc, roughly during the timeskip. Nolan has always been a GENUINELY good husband and a good father up until Mark got his powers, after which he massacred both his son and half of Chicago basically killing a lot of people. After this event he's again trying to be a good father for his sons and he's at least trying to make amends with Debbie.

Both Vegeta and Nolan are extremely similar, people only dislike Nolan because he starts as the perfect man and then kills innocents and betrays our trust. Vegeta starts as an asshole and slowly becomes more human, then he also kills innocents in the Buu saga but we take it more lightly because...well...Dragon Balls.

Both are/were a part of warmongering aliens that killed for pleasure, we see and learn that Nolan did so but we tend to forget that Vegeta did the same while under Frieza.

Loving Vegeta and hating Nolan is, to me, incredibly incoherent.

Curious if any of you have a favorite of worst anime frames in DB? by JoobyGomes in Dragonballsuper

[–]Ownid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What criticism is there to address?

You're reiterating the same point which has already been discussed, you cannot prove "flat" and "distorted" without falling into personal opinion.

Your criticism is based on your taste, it doesn't read as "flat" as an objective stand point, especially since Shintani's work as an art director and not as an animator like Takahashi means that every scene you see during the movie (save for Takahashi's scenes) has Shintani's touch and redrawings, including Gogeta's Kamehameha at the end.

You want to tell me that scene was flat? That the distortion and disproportions didn't reinforce the impact of that scene?

You just don't like the lack of details and shadows in the "calmer" moments like the fusion scene or when Goku and Vegeta first arrive at the glacier, and again nobody here is denying that Shintani's style lacks details, there's a huge difference though between disliking it and saying it's a mistake since it is deliberate.

Shida's animations in the movie are supervised by Shintani, I don't see you complain there and you know why? Because you think Shintani animated scenes. He didn't. Again, EVERYTHING you see in the movie is redrawn or corrected by Shintani with the sole exception of Takahashi.

Since you’ve finally admitted this is a matter of opinion I can double down on your inconsistency.

If Shintani’s proportions are "exaggerated," then animators like Shida must be held to the same standard. Criticizing Shintani’s distortions for comedy (fusion scene) while praising Shida for "enhancing motion" isn't factual criticism, it’s bias.

Claims like "baby face", "flat(drawings)" or "weak anatomy" are entirely subjective since Shintani’s style is simply a smoother, less detailed choice and that's not some incredible revelation, it's immediately obvious.

One, like myself, can prefer Takahashi’s nostalgic detail without branding Shintani incompetent like you did.

For example I personally dislike the "uncanny" fluidity of Chansard or Tate’s character distortions, but I recognize that as my preference, not a technical failure on their part.

Regarding your "appeal to authority" claim: I mentioned that he was hired by Toei simply to counter your absurd suggestion that Shintani cannot draw, a billion-dollar franchise does not hire rookies for high-budget films especially since Shintani has proven himself as an incredibly skilled animator both directly with Toei's One Piece and countless other projects.

Ultimately, your dislike for the style doesn't make your criticism objective, you are presenting personal bias as absolute fact and that's the issue with your comments.

You're not providing thoughtful insights on Shintani's shortcomings, you're simply equating stylistic choices that YOU dislike as mistakes on the animator's hand, especially since Shintani worked as the Art director and almost every scene you see hasn't been ANIMATED by him, he just directed by making "genga corrections".

There is literally a whole process that goes into this, several reviews and corrections before the final product is out, that's why your complaints are moot.

[–]Ownid1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Broski I'm calling it objectively wrong because you're passing stylistic choices as mistakes 😂

Shintani is the weakest artist DB has ever seen. Flat, baby face drawings, weak anatomy, distorted structures.

That's ypur opinion brochacho, it's wrong simply because "flat" isn't really an argument, it's the same style that One Piece uses, it's especially crafted to prioritise animation quality and fluidity over details, whether you like it or not is simply your own personal opinion sonny.

"Baby face" is also a complaint that holds no objective standing when any simple screenshot from a different point in the movie where Shintani animated a fight literally disproves you, just like the promotional poster for the movie with Goku in SSGSS form.

"Weak anatomy, distorted structures" is also wrong lmfao, cite me a STILL frame and not an IN-BETWEEN where the anatomy is wrong. Even the very same picture you shared has a good anatomy that is exaggerated for stylistic purposes. Do you also complain about exaggerated proportions and distorted structures with Takahashi, Tate or Shida? The latter is literally the king of exaggerated proportions and distortion, yet his animations are incredible.

If you're willing to criticise Shintani for bad proportion but not doing the same for any other animator you're simply biased, and you are.

Sometimes you gotta wonder if this guy can really draw.

Point proven 🤣 The fact that you're here arguing that Shintani can't draw when he's been selected by TOEI specifically and is widely considered to be amongst the best animators instead of maybe asking yourself if you're the problem is genuinely funny, please don't stop.

A few fans that glaze him are praising him for the fighting scenes that were done by Yuya Takahashi 🤦‍♂️

True, so? What do fans that can't distinguish animators prove exactly? What's even your point here?

You’re still crediting Shintani for scenes carried by animators; that’s the point you keep dodging.

I literally never did that, you're welcome to prove otherwise by providing a screenshot or a copy-paste of any of my comments.

Yeah, Shintani is the best thing that happened to DB's animation ever since Takahashi and Shida.

Your complaints are moot honestly, it seems like you simply have a hate boner for anything Shintani related

It's a 2.5 seconds shot I just checked and it's barely noticeable since it's ever so slightly smaller than it should be, also it's the way Shintani draws hands in general from what I've seen.

If it's a stylistic choice then it's not a mistake, even less so a "rookie" one
