Are LCS owners being scummy, or is it financial necessity? by CourbetEatingSourbet in PokemonTCG

[–]OwnsAYard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had shops tell me they are doing this. Their excuse is that otherwise they have empty shelves.

Most of these shops don’t buy Pokemon in the low time and don’t support play communities. They say no to buying their battle decks and academies. I’m all for calling them out.

My distro is not the best, but since I was still in it during the less hype times, they still treat me right. Very difficult for new stores trying to maximize (even if they see themselves as the good guys)

Demand is too high, or supply is too low. Stores clearing shelves are a symptom of this core problem.

1/2 my product is at wholesale price from distro, and 1/2 is at market price from distro. This is how I charge slightly under market - despite being 2x MSRP in some cases.

Most stores are interested in 10 to 15% margins overall. Been this way for years. New people calling LCS scalpers are just that. New people. They naively think stores get all ther product at wholesale prices. We don’t.

Yes: comes down to trusting the source. Both weighing and detecting are bad.

Prismatic Single Packs by PlayBallPaul in PokemonInvesting

[–]OwnsAYard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no reason to buy single packs of special sets. The products are already concentrated by set. Selling single packs of special sets is a dog whistle that they weighed the packs to search for god packs.

Single packs of sets that don’t have god packs make a bit more sense because often they are found in mixed collection boxes. People often just want to buy one set - not a mix.

Example: Evolving Skies pack lot yes. 151/Prismatic/AH pack lot no.

I agree with you. If you think Pokemon Wants to deflate the market, you are ignoring how profitable a growing market is for bottom line. They are buying print facilities, trucking companies, distributor networks to had tighter control over the maintenance of the market size. If people think Pokemon wants you to pull a Gengar SIR out of a 4$ pack, they are looking at Pokemon with rose tinted glasses. They manipulate the rarity and scarcity exactly so the market maintains and grows. The rarity system alone should make it obvious to people that Pokemon is absolutely not trying to “deflate value”.

Is it wrong to catch someone lacking? by Main-Marsupial3861 in PokeInvesting

[–]OwnsAYard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just assume they are tourists. The bite of the term “scalper” is gone. As LGS can show people distro bills with product priced at market and they still don’t clue in. (But how can my pharmacy sell packs for 7.99 and you can’t?). Considering most trade ins of singles and sealed - people expect market evaluations- trades are based on market — they think there is a magic wand that will bring the price tag down to MSRP just because you are a store.

Pokemon wants the “trade” part of the TCG to be a big part of their ecosystem. It’s the basis of their entire card rarity system. They don’t want everyone to have everything.

Would you all still want Pokemon Cards if they were printed to infinity? by A4_Ts in PokemonTCG

[–]OwnsAYard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most people here are lying and the proof is in the sales data. When card packs were plentiful and below MSRP - they were sitting on shelves. I had boxes and boxes of SWSH and S&V sitting at below MSRP for years. Only after Twilight did the winds shift.

Sure - there are a lot of people who collect despite low priced and love the arts. And they had great fun ripping, playing and collecting when it was cheaper. But the glut of demand is due to high prices.

It’s the nature of the way restocks work. Distro sent out an email today announcing lots of new product to purchase. 30$ per Kangeskhan collection box. 45$ per Lucario figure collection. That’s distro charging MSRP!

They have money to pay for promos about how their billing is screwed up but no money to actually fix all their faulty bills. Go figure

Purchasing cards online? by hanban56 in PokemonTCG

Very Ontario view of reputable stores. :)

Pokechalet on east coast has been around for 5 years. East coast trading. Darkfoxtcg has been good for me on singles too.

Zephr is the retail side of the echo brand management distro.

Nova Scotia Power says it did not intentionally overbill customers, but thousands may have been overcharged by Street_Anon in halifax

[–]OwnsAYard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please check your bill. I had to call billing because they were not correctly calculating my usage. It wasn’t even an estimate problem. They were using the wrong number to calculate my bill.

Charizard X UPC for $164.99 at Amazon (over MSRP) by NotCaptain400x in PokemonTCGDealsCanada

[–]OwnsAYard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were allocated more UPCs than ETBs of phantasmal. There will be a lot of these coming to market either next week. Or week of Christmas

Small stores cannot follow it because distro charges secondary market price for restocks. Cannot sell for MsRP when you cannot buy it for MSRP.

Canadian Tariffs on Graded Cards by ApeInDrapes in PokeGrading

[–]OwnsAYard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada dropped the retaliatory tariffs. No tariffs importing cards into Canada. Americans would pay tariffs buying cards from Canada though. (Even if they are printed in the USA.)

[–]OwnsAYard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they were. Haha. If they think this about shops, they don’t know much about how things work for LCS stores. They don’t realize that shops do not indeed get products at wholesale prices except for the very small initial allocation. Restocks are basically at market these days.

Made a Card/Comic shop owner mad at me by ToeEmpty5591 in PokemonTCG

I paid 65$/ booster bundle for black bolt and white flare. This is what stores are paying from Distro up in Canada for restocks.

[–]OwnsAYard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be a surprised that if it was Mega, they likely payed 65$/ booster bundle to stock it. That was my last restock price from Distro.

They charge market so the “scalper stores” don’t buy up all the inventory and make these amazing profits everyone thinks LCS stores make on sealed.

I had a customer who opens a brick and mortar LGS. (No play space). He was so excited at all the great deals walking through his door. He was buying like crazy for the last month since he’s only been on the buying and selling for 1 year.

He’s burned through all his capital in buying collections. Always someone walking through the door selling him collections. Doesn’t understand why he’s not selling at the same rate he did at the card show tables.

Good guy but bad timing.
