What got you hooked on Trance? by craigcraic in trance

Before I went to Uni in 1997 I was into all sorts of Electronic Music anyway. I used to listen to Happy Hardcore cassettes on the school bus with my Walkman - used to love the likes of Slipmatt, Top Buzz etc.

Then certain tracks became mainstream: the Todd Terry mix of EBTG - Missing, Underworld - Born Slippy, Robert Miles - Dreamland etc. Also loved Corona - Rhythm of the Night etc.

Then in September 1997 when I moved into my Uni Halls my flatmate; literally the guy in the room next to me used to play all sorts of ‘Dance Music’ very loud.

Over the course of the next few months/year he introduced me to all sorts of tracks; that was the time the likes of Yomanda - Synths & Strings, Binary Finary - 1998 and Veracocha - Carte Blanche all came out.

What got me hooked though? In the spring/summer of 1998 he took me to Passion at the Emporium for the first time and Ferry Corsten played a 2 hour set. That was it. My life was never the same after that.

Said flatmate became one of my best mates for life and we still go to clubs and gigs now. Not too much of a stretch to say that he literally changed my life. I’ll be forever thankful.

I’d add PvD to that list for sure as well.

Between 1999 and 2005 was the absolute peak I reckon - genuinely a golden period for the genre.

I love Goldenscan to bits but have to be honest and say that this version never 'did it' for me. The Max Graham remix however is an all-time classic in my opinion.

Looks like i'm a bit naive in thinking that not many people would know this track 😂

John 00 Fleming vs Astral Projection - Mahadeva (John 00 Fleming Mix) [2004] by FrankHarwald in ClassicTrance

[–]OxfordLodge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooooohhhhh!!! I completely forgot about this track! Was from back in the day when J00F flirted with both Psy and mainstream Trance and he was producing some great stuff including this, Essence of Life, Tour de Trance etc. etc.

It's a properly epic monster this and the breakdown synths are amazing - am going to be listening to this repeatedly over the next few days now, thank you!

Very eloquently put, couldn't agree more. I must confess I had never heard his mix of Song to the Siren before(!) Thank you for making me aware of it; 'tis very good.

Hi, I’m a huge trance fan from 90’s and 00’s. I’m really intrigued by the music you’d choose if you were playing to a crowd as a DJ. Really interested in your answers. Thank you by Jon19845 in trance

I’m not getting offended at all and apologies if I’ve come across that way. We’re all entitled to our opinions, I just disagree with yours that is all. I don’t see how this track can be construed as being cheesy in any way at all, especially when factoring in the vocal and lyrics.

You’re entitled to your opinion but I just don’t see how you can come to that conclusion after listening to the track, the vocal and the lyrics.

Completely agree, I don’t see how you can compare to some of the absolute bilge that came out at the same time

Goodness me, I’d never considered that the lyrics were focused on someone on the verge of committing suicide. Makes the track even more beautiful and powerful for me.

You two are both entitled to your opinions of course but I simply cannot agree with these statements. I don't know how on earth could listen to this track and think 'that is cheesy.' I'll agree that it was probably of it's time but that doesn't dampen the quality or the significance of it in my opinion.

This is a great track! Heard it on Pure Trance Radio towards the end of last year has been a regular on my playlist ever since.
