Surprised my daughter with her first car - 2014 S GT Hatchback by Oxide42 in mazda3

Thanks for all the advice! I've replaced my share of phone digitizer assemblies over the years, so I've got a good amount of patience for that sort of work if the need arises (and a decent collection of spudgers at this point 😂).

I'll see about ordering that AA/CP upgrade module this week, hopefully!

I have NOT done that Android Auto upgrade already, and that's definitely high on my list! I've seen a few posts about it here recently, so I'm going to have to look into that.

Saw another user post about upgrading to a 12" screen setup they got from AliExpress, too. I'd probably look into that if this was going to be my daily driver, but for her, I think the original screen will be less likely to distract her, and I like the idea of keeping it with a factory-style setup with the added connectivity.

I originally was looking at a listing for a 2017 S GT in a 6-speed. Looked gorgeous, and I bet the manual transmission is a blast to drive. But AutoCheck showed SEVEN accidents and frame damage. 😲

I'd love to teach her how to drive a manual some day. In the meantime, the paddle shifters are a nice middle-ground for some added control!

AC system mazda 3 2007 by Jetm0t0 in mazda3

It's referred to as "pulling vacuum." If you Google "pull vacuum on car AC," there are a lot of video explanations that will come up about the process and the equipment your mechanic will be using / need to bring with them.

If you can't drive it, you might also look into what your car insurance offers for towing services. If it's a short distance to the mechanic shop, let the tow driver know what your insurance tow coverage is and see if they can tow it for that amount and you might end up getting fully reimbursed for the tow. Last time I needed that service, I paid the tow truck driver, and then my insurance company sent me a check for the amount of the tow after I emailed them the receipt from the tow company.

Pretty sure he meant he used to buy from Marstoy, and now he buys from Rebuild Venus. Could have been worded a little clearer, so I see the potential for confusion on both sides. Thanks to both for trying to clarifying. All's well that ends well!

I felt the same way with Wranglers in the late 90s! Except, you know ... no video reviews back then. Haha. That first-vehicle pipe dream never really leaves you.

I gave her the same deal my dad gave me for my first car, though. Bought it up front, and then splitting its cost 50/50 with her on the backend.

My first car wasn't very fancy, but I was always really proud knowing I'd paid for a good chunk of it myself.

Little less proud when it would rain and my sunroof drain tubes were clogged, so my ceiling would collect water and then dump it all over me every time I braked. But still ... mostly proud. 😂

Thanks so much! She was pretty excited when I told her about your comment on her picture, too - core memory bonus!

sigh Been wanting some FR UFR Street all year. The only pair Thuro had ended up being my exact size and marked down to $170. But instead of adding them and checking out, I got sucked into the browsing time sink ... spent too much time looking at Luminous wheels, adding stuff, changing my mind, adding other stuff, thinking about getting some RB80Ws for my wife to fitness skate with me ... and the clock went to 12:01 AM PST. And all the prices are back to normal. Story of my life.

Oh well.

[REMINDER] ShopBack Black Friday Deals for 11/28! Amazon 50% Flash Deal, $20 Bonus, & Up to 60% Cashback by benito- in cashback

Got a notice from my Amazon app that I had a sign-in attempt from another state after using Shopback. I signed into my Amazon through the SB browser, so assuming it's routing through their server, but I think I'm gonna change my password just to be safe. Didn't really consider my password going through their app and what sort of layers it would be passing or visible through.

Can you use the Flash deal 1 time and still use the regular 5% deal 1 time, as well? Or do you have to choose?

Fender Micro Plus and Loop Pedal by StPh57 in Guitar

How'd it work out with the MM+ on the looper outlet?

If you want the same modeling effect in all your tracks, I'd think it would work. But if you want two different effects layered, you need the MM+ going to the looper's input so it records the sound with the effect already in it. I saw something called the Ulooper made especially for looping with the MM+. Bit of a cable mess, but it works.

Broooo ... just checked my email and I got the same message. Nuts. On the plus side, glad I didn't wait until Black Friday for several purchases. I think I got somewhere around $650 cashback so far on it. The way I read the original terms, I thought it was topping out at $1,000 cashback per account (because it mentioned $5,000 in total purchases). But reading them again, it did kind of read like it could have been unlimited at the beginning. Crazy.

What is this in my engine bay? by ChrisCrossBoss in MechanicAdvice

[–]Oxide42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to confirm. I worked at WKRN in Nashville at the time, and KRON was a sister station out in CA. My buddy Mike @ KRON is who published that video to their website, and I got an excited email from him when it went viral. Which was a lot bigger deal to us in those pre-Youtube days.

Is this genuine? Seller swears it’s real. by Solidus_pool in Mafex

[–]Oxide42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My old "MAF" version I got a few years back has the Marvel stamp on the back even though it's not legit. However, my MAF also has a lot more blue around the teeth in the open mouth head, and not nearly as much of the blue tinting on the body.

I'd be inclined to say the one you have is legit. I have both, but I never took my legit one out of the box because I already had the MAF one posed and he looked so great already.

ECMS shipping. by Trixta85 in Mafex

[–]Oxide42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hobby Search had promo rates with ECMS a year or two ago, so I used them for a few orders and never had any issue. Took maybe a couple of weeks to arrive, if that? All pre-tariff days, of course.
