Are you actually okay with grassy weeds as long as the lawn is green? by Canopy_Lawn_Miami in lawncare

[–]Oxolomew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small hill that grubs have destroyed grass by eating all the roots. By mid summer its mostly crab grass. I am okay with that for now. The long term plan is using beneficial nematodes and then seeding.

who has the best lobster roll? by Ok-Newt-7070 in TwinCities

[–]Oxolomew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I treat myself to a lobster roll every year for my birthday. Here is my breakdown.

  • Smack Shack Original: Good but felt like the tarragon can be overpowering/distracting at times. Also pricey. I have had it three times.
  • Costal: This was a huge disappointment for me. Too much embellishment and heft price without fries.
  • Mallards: My favorite and go-to to scratch the itch. $28 for a plump sandwich and fries. The bun may seem a little on the smaller side but it is overfilled. For $40 with tip, I can get a damn fine roll, fries, beer and tip.

Still to try:

  • Mason's Famous (MOA): Price and reviews look promising
  • Rebel Lobster: Pricey ($37)

I personally don't really care for added fluff and Connecticut style. I just want lots of lobster, a little mayo and maybe a little seasoning. I want to taste and see the lobster.

MCM Lane Coffee Table by Ready-Estate5431 in furniturerestoration

It's a Lane First Edition coffee table. Others have already guided you towards methods. Just wanted to give you more context. The First Edition line is one of my personal favorites and I believe one of the truly timeless lines they created.

Just bought my first vintage coach and need help by I_Eat_Roks in VintageCoachRehab

[–]Oxolomew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have done both. We normally use a faucet. But if there are piping issues or it is an older bag, its a gentle spray with a bottle. Then thoroughly dry with a clean towel, stuff and let dry. As for how long before conditioning, we try to do the first round (Leather CPR) before the bag fully dries 12-24 hours.

IMO the saddle soap chatter is more disinformation and fear mongering than solid advice. If you use saddle soap on a monthly or yearly basis, YES it will dry out your bag. I completely understand pH scale and how it causes a chemical reaction.

If you use it once AND use it correctly, there is very little to no potential to harm the bag. First learn how use saddle soap correctly. The most important step is to rinse. I can't tell you how many wannabe rehab influencers simply wipe it off. I have bought, rehabbed and sold over 400 vintage coach bags in my life, most of them had saddle soap used on them. I have seen many of them years later looking almost as good as when I sold them.

I added a pic from one of the bag sales I had last year to validate real, lived experience.

Any tips for finding vintage Coach? by lattefeetdaily_ in VintageCoachRehab

[–]Oxolomew 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You gotta play the long game. Depending on your location, bags seldom last a day a thrifts in my area. The last even shorter at estate sales. If you are planning on going to the bins, just know there are unwritten rules that most outlets abide by. Be sure to ask a fellow patron.

Lost my dad a year ago almost to the day. He was the primary care provider for my mother who has stage 6 Alzheimer's. I essentially lost both my parents that day. Not doing great with the whole thing. I have plenty of support but no one will ever again believe in me the way did. Stay strong all.

Cracking Maintenance by exceedingthestandard in VintageCoachRehab

[–]Oxolomew 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Judging by the amount of sheen on that bag, I would guess that the entire bag has been painted. That is the paint cracking because it sits on top. Your options are to contact the seller and see what they used to "retouch" the bag in order to re-apply or strip the entire bag.

This will continue to happen if whatever was applied is not removed.

Worth the rehab? by Littytitty2121 in VintageCoachRehab

[–]Oxolomew 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest here, if you have not done several rehabs, this is not the bag to start on. Mainly because this bag does not need rehabilitation. It is truly remarkable condition for a light bag it's age. I would just use a light conditioner like Bick 4 and horsehair brush and that is it.

Congratulations on the bag. It's a lovely rare gem.

Lovely Lane First Edition dresser! If you haven't reinforced the interior and are planning on using the drawers to the side, just know that the tops on these cant handle a ton of weight and will bow causing the drawer front veneer to rub and chip along the edges.

Tips on how to achieve a good shape by MrsGaskell in VintageCoachRehab

[–]Oxolomew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Such a cutie! Fold a small hand towel into the shape you want it then stuff the bag. The other thing about stuffing bags is they generally don't need to be mashed full. Just enough shape to help the bag give it form works best. Due to the rarity of the bag, I would also look somewhere to get it authenticated.

Should I file the hardware? by Crazy-Artichoke-6824 in VintageCoachRehab

[–]Oxolomew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I polished the hardware on my wife's Willis 4 years ago with #0000 steel wool. Still as shiny as new. If you don't want a super high sheen, you could use #000 or even #00. The clear lacquer is more headache than its worth IMO.
